Wrapped body dumped in church driveway By BARBARA SAUERS Managing Editor Published: Sunday, September 6, 2009 5:12 AM CDT
QUEENSTOWN The body of a 29-year-old Sudlersville man was found early Saturday wrapped in a light blue blanket and dumped in the circular driveway of St. Luke's Chapel on Main Street in Queenstown.
Lt. Dale Patrick, spokesman for the Queen Anne's Sheriff's Office, said a woman called 911 from a pay phone at the Trailway Truck Stop at state Route 304 to report seeing a vehicle dumping a body in the area of the church.
The body was identified as that of William Frank Sutton IV. Police were able to identify him from identification information found on his body. There were no visible signs of trauma, Patrick said. Police believe he may have died sometime Friday between 8 p.m. and midnight. Sutton appeared to have been dead for at least a couple hours when he was found. Patrick said Sutton has no affiliation with the church, which is six to eight miles from the truck stop.
Police have identified the caller from a surveillance camera at the truck stop and were searching for her Saturday evening.
Patrick said an autopsy already had been performed Saturday at the state Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore. He said officers at the scene did not detect alcohol use. The cause of death appears to be from an unidentified substance and remains a suspicious death. Police await a toxicology report.
Sutton's mother, who lives in Sudlersville, has been notified, he said.
The sheriff's office Criminal Investigation Division and the Maryland State Police Crime Lab are investigating the case.

Thanks for the info and the clarification. Either way, Will is dead. Many of you might know him from the local band, The Big Hurt.

Will was so sweet, a "little man" trying so hard to be a big man. He was so talented. And he will be missed by us all.

Given who it was and those involved, that cat would have been let out of that bag very soon anyway. But in any case, I'm glad they were identified.

The woman was identified. And knowing who she is, I'm not shocked. You had to be pretty messed up to do that, to be so insensitive as to just dump someone you know and purportedly care about off in a church driveway. Maybe a hospital would have been a better choice. But to even have the gumption to do it in the first place? Sick, insensitive and completely irresponsible. Although the church was a nice touch I suppose - a much better choice than say, a dumpster or the middle of the road. Maybe he was already gone and in her drug-induced panic thought only a prayer could have helped him then - but she could have at least TRIED to get him to a hospital, or called 911 from her house when she discovered him. I am disgusted and sad and completely beside myself that something like this could happen here.

She was not alone, she was not the only one involved. Since this is a suspected heroin overdose, it is quite possible he went to sleep and died. From what I understand of the drug, that is how the deadly overdose often occurs. I can only hope that yet another deadly drug overdose will be a wakeup call to all the other addicts.

Heroin huh....wow I didn't even know people were doing heroin around here I thought the drug of choice was cocaine.
She wasn't alone, that's for sure. Irregardless, don't you get into trouble for neglecting to make any attempts at helping someone obviously in dire need of medical attention? Even paramedics will work on dead people and try every last resort to revive them...

From what I have heard (although totally hear-say) Will was not dead at the time and was only in a coma when dropped there. I hope that she and the rest of them that were with him that night get what they deserve. Its absolutely ridiculous to have no care on someones well being just because you don't want to be caught doing the same drugs..... Man up and turn yourself in, the eastern shore is a small place and we all know you, so either way you will be found.

i cannot find anything on this It's on the front page of today's Bay Times. It doesn't go into detail though regarding the woman mentioned here online. Body dumped in church driveway By JACK SHAUM Staff Writer Published: Wednesday, September 9, 2009 5:05 AM CDT QUEENSTOWN Investigators with the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office are searching for the woman who called in a report of a body being dumped near a Queenstown church early Saturday in hopes she can shed light on the incident. "She should be able to fill in a lot of the holes in this case," said Lt. Dale Patrick, spokesman for the sheriff's office. He said investigators want to question her but she is not a suspect in anything. "We believe she may have been with him when he died," Patrick added, referring to the dead man who was identified as William Frank Sutton IV, 29, of Sudlersville. The woman called 911 from a pay phone at the Trailway Truck Stop on Route 304 around 1:45 a.m. Saturday to say "she saw two males carrying a person who appeared to be drugged near the white church," Patrick said. Investigators were able to identify the woman, who Patrick said is local, through a surveillance camera at the truck stop. The white church is St. Luke's Chapel on Main Street. The body, wrapped in a light blue blanket, was found in the church's circular driveway. There were no visible signs of trauma. Patrick said an autopsy was conducted Saturday at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore, but the cause of death won't be known until toxicology test results are back. He did not know how long that will take. There was no word on the type of vehicle used when the body was dumped, Patrick said. Investigators have gotten various reports about the case and are busy sorting through them, he said. Police believe Sutton may have died sometime Friday between 8 p.m. and midnight. Patrick said Sutton was not affiliated with the church where his body was found. The investigation is being led by D/Cpl. Bruce Layton, who is being assisted by Sgt. Mark Meil, Dfc. Martin Neilsen, the Criminal Investigation Division, and the Maryland State Police Crime Lab.

Heroin Death Called Manslaughter Posted by John Lang on September 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment
A Joppa woman is accused of manslaughter in the heroin overdose death of a Sudlersville man whose body was found abandoned in a churchyard.
Jessica Cuddy, 30, of Joppa, was being held today on a $100,000 bond in the death of William Sutton of Sudlersville whose body was discovered early Saturday on the grounds of St. Luke’s Church in Queenstown.
The Queen Anne’s Sheriff’s Office reports investigators learned that Cuddy was at a family residence located in “Recovery” near Centreville and was “partying with Sutton and provided him with heroin” on the night he overdosed.
“When Sutton’s breathing stopped, Cuddy, instead of calling medical assistance, loaded Sutton into the bed of a truck and drove about five miles to St Luke’s,” the sheriff’s office stated. “She then left the body covered in a blue blanket.”
Investigators say Cuddy then drove to a truck stop just outside Centreville and called 911, reporting she had seen a man at the church who appeared to be overdosed or drunk.
“She provided the dispatcher with a fake name and then disconnected the call,” according to the sheriff’s report.
Deputies responding to the call found Sutton, aged 30 and unemployed, dead.
“Investigation soon identified Cuddy as the caller,” the report said. Cuddy came to the sheriff’s office and gave her account of the incident and afterward was arrested and charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment and controlled dangerous substance charges.
Depluty Bruce Layton led the investigation, assisted by detectives J.D. Hofmann and Steve Stouffer of the Queen Anne’s sheriff’s narcotics task force as well as the Maryland State Police crime lab.

"Deputies responding to the call found Sutton, aged 30 and unemployed, dead." I have a problem with that statement. What is the point of mentioning unemployed. I think he made some pretty good money working for the band. Being a musician is a job. Either way, that was a callous remark and should not have been mentioned, IMO.

Most musicians don't get paid like the rest of us. A 1099 if they file at all. Even still, what a crappy way to describe him!

I agree!!! He was employed for the MOST part...just not at this particular time in his life!!!! Why was it necessary to add that to his description???

I wonder if it is just automatic to list an occupation in that sentence. Granted, someone should have thought a little before writing or approving that statement, it is insensitive, but there may have been no malice.

I don't think any ill thoughts were had for the "unemployed" bit. It's just common to list where they are from and what they did. Every Friday and Saturday night we have "drive and drops" by the ER. Could be a gun shot or O.D. all they do is slow down and dropp off a body. Even had one dropped off and then the driver turned too much and ran over his buddies leggs. This won't wake up any of his druggie freinds, hitting bottom for one guy is totaly different from the next. They all have their personal bottom some just die before they see it. They love, crave, lust the drug more then life it self. I have asked many to describe the "high" from hero and not one can tell me all they say is "it's the highest high and yet you not high at all, you have to try it" I have always passed and yet they will be on a gurny in the ER and want to get high againjust after we saved him/her. Crazy ,
