Everyone please be careful and keep an eye/ and ear out for anything unusual. Over the weekend my car was broken into and the window bashed in. A few other cars in my neighborhood were also broken into... the Officer that came out said that there were mass amounts of break ins around the area. Dont keep anything valuable in your cars, and be aware of your surroundings.

What area? Any particular neighborhood?

By the way, for the non-hunting crowd.. one of the hunter's tools that has become very common over the last several years is the "Trail Camera" or "Scouting camera"..
The technology has evolved rapidly to digital formats with battery life up to one year and the ability to capture thousands of photos. Infrared flash keeps the camera hidden even after dark. Full motion video or still snaphots is available.
Very good cameras are available between $100 and $200. Might not stop a criminal but might just provide the evidence to identify and convict.
The more video surveillance there is protecting a neighborhood, the less likely the criminals are to target an area, especially when the word spreads that homes and neighborhoods are under video surveillance.
Best regards, BC

Yes, my car and a few other cars were broken into in the Bridgetown Estates community. The officer that responded told me that break ins are happening all over Queen Annes County not just Centreville. Maybe getting a camera will be a good idea.

These cameras work great, are motion activated, have aiming lasers, takes bursts of pics, video, etc. Make sure to get one with a IR flash which means infrared and look for one that has a flash range of 40-50'. The way these work is that you don't see the flash but uses the IR transmitters to take a pretty clear night picture of anything that trips the motion sensor. Most cameras today don't make a sound when they take a picture or video. No sound, no flash, perps caught on film. As BC said it will not stop them but pics are worth a thousand words and if caught, will do the community a great service.

Guess the "lock your car and help stop break ins" is not working. After reading what is going on, it seems better to make sure there is nothing in your car and leave it unlocked - or deal with fixing a broken window. Pretty brazen since I would think that breaking a window would create a lot of noise.
I read somewhere that you should keep your car keys with you at night and if you hear something strange in or around the house you can hit the panic button as a disturbance. Haven't tried it but I guess that depends on how close the car is to the bedroom.

I was thinking about keeping my car unlocked and just taking everything out of it. However, I have a smart key and if I walk a certain distance away from my car it locks automatically... Im definitely not leaving the keys in it! I was at my parents house last night and heard a car alarm going off in the neighborhood at 3:20 something in the morning... not sure what that was about, hopefully nothing.

Pretty brazen since I would think that breaking a window would create a lot of noise." This is exactly what we were taught when I was stationed in Naples, Italy. Leave a 500 Lira coin in the change tray and leave the car unlocked. That way the thieves (and there were many) would open the car, steal from the stupid American, (we had tags that said we were American, so might as well paint a target on your car) and be on their way. If they didn't find anything, they tended to get mad and break your windows out of spite.
