And the winner tonight......."Rustico's"...... Ignored by at least two waitresses. Not even an acknowledgement that We are sitting there and will be right with you So. After many minutes we left. And on our way out a waitress said thank you come again as well as the hostess that sat us. We laughed and said seriosly? We didn't even get waited on. We were very nice. But just an acknowledgement would have kept us there and a pretty decent bill and tip would have followed!!

I guess it happens sometimes, doesn't matter where you go. We are still dealing with people..
But, let's face it. Generally Rustico is very nice.
Does remind of something I have picked up on recently. Applebees. Obviously that chain trains the employees very well. Outstanding service my last three trips. One is Dover, the one in Annapolis by the Mall, and the last one in Middletown, De.
Food and service has been outstanding.

I actually had a poor experience at Applebees in Easton a couple of weekends ago. The food was good, the service was good, it was at the end that the problem came up. Paid with a $25.00 gift card and a $20.00 bill. What was left over equaled a 22.5% tip. The problem was I was not asked if I wanted my change back, the folder just came back empty. I thought it was my choice to tip, not an assumption on their part. Yes, I probably would have left the change in the folder, but I never had the choice. It didn't really hit me until I was driving home that this kinda sucked, so I sent a message to the manager via Facebook about it and got no reply after a week. I know they saw it, it is right on their wall and there have been posts from them about other stuff since. I then sent a message to the corporate complaint center a week later, again no reply.
I don't want a refund or a gift card or anything else, just assurance that this is not their policy. I don't think I'll get it. And I won't be back and I encourage others to not patronize them as well. Just my $.02.

So anyway... we were at this function the other night.... and ran into the owner of Rustico's.. Well my husband did.... and they got to talking and all and our mishap came up and the owner was upset that it happened, but tried to explain to hubby that she has/had been so busy with this function and pulled a lot of of her staff to help with it, leaving the resturant shorthanded... etc. etc. etc... Hubby was like, hey we didn't cause a scene, we weren't ugly, we just didn't like being ignored, but one bad visit, isn't going to influence us from never stepping foot in there... We like the food and atmosphere.. etc... But that's cool! you know..
BUT If I was a business owner, I don't think I would let my business go shorthanded... Just my opinion.... What if we were new customers... we would never go back... In this day and age... you can't afford to lose good customers...Or can you? Hmmmm hmmmmm...

I can understand where they are coming from. I have a business and employees but with limited capital, you just can't go out and hire whomever and whenever. The times you are shorthanded does not necessarily mean you are short handed all the time and once you have an employee, you are obligated to keep that person employed. Hiring an employee is a big decision and a big investment, at any level. They are representing you and your business so you want to take the time to hire the right person and not have to go through five bad ones to find the right one. Also, this State favors employees rights over employers so there is a whole other discussion about the costs and risks of State Unemployment Insurance you have to pay. Then there is the benefit costs, payroll taxes, workers comp, health insurance, other pre and post tax benefits to offer, vacation, sick, paid holidays, grievences, time lost to employees being out to, personality conflicts, etc.
Going shorthanded at times may not be the best, but it may be the only option for the employer. Just my thought, give the business another shot and you may be pleasantly surprised. I think we should support all of our local businesses and be thankful they are here, giving us a great service, employing our residents, and giving back to our community.

Attempted to have breakfast at Holly's this morning and was unable to do so. Place was fairly busy, so a short wait was expected. 20 minutes for a waiter was not what we had in mind. We were seated in a section that smelled like a leak of some sort had happened and it was not completely dry, so that added to the atmosphere. As my wife and I sat, ready to order, still no server. I look around and there are two servers standing at the end of the counter cokin' and jokin', so I got up and asked if there was server assigned to our table. They said yes, they would get him. I sat back down for another 5 minutes and watched them stand around some more. I do have to say that some of the employees were actually doing something, but we had no involvement with them, as they were busy. We finally got up to leave as our "server" came around the corner. As I was leaving I said that it was taking too d@mned long and he loudly (yelled) for us to have a nice day. I told him we would and we left. This is the last time I will ever set foot in this place after having been a semi-loyal customer for 15 years. To the owners of Holly's: Your time has passed and you are not representative of this area anymore. You don't care who you hire or what your customers think of you. I see kitchen staff come out constantly to shoot the sh!t with the servers and many people just milling around aimlessly. You have become irrelevant and do not contribute to the hometown feel that once was here. Please sell your establishment to a gas station and stop pretending you care. You're not fooling me anymore. As to the loss of jobs this will create, if more of your employees were doing theirs, you would not have this problem, so there is no real loss of "jobs", just a loss of a place for some people to go and spend time for a paycheck. They can do the same amount of work on unemployment as they do now. Goodbye Holly's, and everything you used to be.

I have never had any good luck at Applebee's I like their food and all but doesn't matter Easton or Annapolis I always get the worse service I won't go to Applebee's. My folks go there, and one day found that Yuengling was gone. They asked why, and were told "Sam Adams told us we can't sell their beer if we also serve Yuengling". It's not Pepsi vs Coke. It's big guy vs little guy.
