Please check out and comment on the proposed new start and end times for the school day in Queen Anne's County. For example, Matapeake Elementary School would start at 9:25 instead of 9:15 and end at 4:15 instead of 3:45.

Kids will be on the busses and streets after dark during the winter at rush hour.. I don't think that is a good idea.

My grandkids get off the bus at 4:30 now. This will make it 5pm and in the middle of December it will be pitch black outside....not a good idea for an elementary school.

Will definitely put a damper on sports for the younger ones, and make evenings very difficult...there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day...and they will lose even more outside playtime...

I agree w/ you ^^^^ Will make it harder for those who participate in extracurricular activities be it sports or dance or whatever... most of those start at 6ish... so now they get home at 5, gotta do homework, eat dinner & rush off... that's already a challenge with the way it is now. especially since in a lot of homes both parents work... then if enough parents complain, then the extracurricular activities will start later - hence end later .... then you've got overly tired kids...

Does anyone know the purpose of this? Is it budgetary?

Does anyone know the purpose of this? Is it budgetary? Isn't it for everything?

Yes, it has to do with budgets. They had an evaluation done of the busing system to see how they could save money and the recommended changes require the time changes. They are soliciting input on the website. I sent a letter to all the BOE members and received several comments back. They are still just considering the move, so please send in your comments.
