I don't understand why people seem to be so against doing their own recycleing. Is it so much of a problem to sort and stack it somewhere and take it up once a week to the dump or any of the other recycle sites.
I can see not wanting to do you own trash, not everybody has a pickup, but the stuff you recycle is basicaly clean and can be hauled in a trunk of any car.

I just got off the phone with a sales rep from Bates and he honored the $54 quarterly rate. He solicits service on the Eastern Shore and said he signed up 50 people in the last two weeks. Looks like they are expanding. Get my cans this Saturday, first pikup next Wednesday.

Thanks for the info, everyone! Looking for a company. I do not like the thought of the sight of trash cans along every road all week long, though....makes your entire community look like trash.

Is recycling pickup this week in Bay City? I just noticed they have a new website and it no longer has the rules or instructions for leaf/brush pickup.
Thanks!

We've been happy with Chesapeake for three years. They have even matched Bates price over the phone. They don't deal with the recycle stuff though.

I'm bringing this back from the dead. Apparently the yard waste removal that was included when we signed the subscription contract is no longer free. As of Sept 01, you will have to buy bags directly from Bates Trucking at a fee of $2.00 per bag which includes removal. It was included when I signed my subscription contract, how can they change the rules while I'm under contract? Time to make some phone calls. www.batestrucking.com/get-your-bates-trucking-yard-waste-bag/Call you customer service representative at (301) 773-2069 or e-mail info@batestrucking.com. Edit: Don't try emailing them, the mailbox is full.

I still drop two bags of clippings in my trash can. Hasn't been a problem, besides, grass cutting is almost over for the year. Also, still paying $54/qtr. No change in my future.

Anyone know anything about Fuel charges? Is that $18/mo going to be $18/mo regardless of Fuel increases? I Had WM for a while until I saw the fuel charge on top of the $85 a quarter price. I switched to Bates over 2 years ago and live in KIE. Bates uses the lime green receptacles. No rate change after 2 years....as a matter of fact, they lowered the price after 2 years for loyalty. Hope this helps.

I don't have mine handy right now, but there is probably a clause in there to allow them to add costs somehow. It may be hidden such as "changes in disposal fees will be passed on to the customer". These fees are out of control of the hauling company. I am not saying it is right or wrong, just telling you what I know. calling them to discuss the fee will be your guest bet.

Yard waste gets mixed in the with the trash - normally sticks and twigs, grass is mulched by the mower. Truck guys don't care, seldom more than one can and if it gets flagged, time to look for another carrier...

We use Bates - Last week our neighborhood was scheduled for both waste & recycle p/u. Two of our neighbors observed the waste truck throw the trash & recycling together in the same truck. Both neighbors called Bates and they were told different stories. The 1st neighbor was told that it was a truck issue and the recycling truck was full. The other neighbor was told that they sort it out later.

Don't forget they are based on the western shore and a single equipment breakdown may disrupt the entire schedule. So, they did what every other available local trash hauler does, combine the load. In my opinion, their effort to encourage and participate in recycling significantly surpasses that of any other local carrier. Bottom line, I'm just happy to see my trash taken away and off the Island.

Picked up,trash today but not recycling in bay city? Yes, Bates picks up recycling every other week. I can understand by doing that, the recycling truck may fill up before the end of the route. I would guess as more people recycle, the need for weekly recycling pickup may be needed. In the meantime, I just paid my $54 for the quarter, and still happy I didn't go with the $80/qtr company. Bates gives me two containers and hauls my waste away, what more do I really need?

After a rough start with Bates, I have to say that I am very pleased. They communicate regularly and well, and have played much less games with services, pricing and contract language than I experienced using Waste Management.
