Isn't it time that the Annapolis Mall (Westfield) has a police station in it like the malls in Waldrof and Columbia? Annapolis has some genuine ghetto crack neighborhoods like Robinwoods and whatever the new designer ghetto behind St. Johns is, so with the recent mall shooting, it only makes sense to have police in there.

No, it's about time people raise their kids right and stop waiting for the gov't to take care of them when they become criminals.
It's also time for some REAL punishment for criminals, even/especially 1st time offenders. no more plea bargains, make mandatory sentances, and stick to them.
Get cops to stop sniffing out seat belt tickets and go find some real criminals.
More laws and more cops isn't the answer for the common sense that's missing here.

We don't need more laws. We just need to enforce the ones that we already have. The parenting in these welfare neighborhoods is something that is just shamefull. I don't know what can be done on that front either because it's generations of poverty now and zero motivation to become a part of working society. Adding more police is just a way of writing these people off as criminals, and doing nothing is only ignoring the fact that many of them are criminals. Sounds harsh, but it's reality. A d**n shame.

"Designer Ghetto", lol! That's what I called that new welfare/section-8 neighborhood behind St. Johns too. Maryland is really messed up with their placement of subsodized housing in my opinion. Many of us would love to live on College Creek behind St. Johns, walking distance to downtown and parking garages. Those homes are worth literally millions if they were sold to the public. Instead MD made it public housing.... Where is the motivation to get on your feet and move out of the 'ghetto' when you are living on the water in a perfect location? I understand the need for public housing, but there has to be some motivation for the residents to support themselves and get out on their own. Coddling is not the answer and the proof is what is going on right in these neighborhoods in regards to crime, etc. Just my $0.02

This forum is the first I heard about the designer ghetto (good term!) near St. Johns... and I find myself shocked that our ridiculously PC society has sunken to the new low of providing friggin nice digs for public housing. As you say, WTF would they want to get a job/life?
Ugly section 8 provides shelter and motivation all at once.

What they really need to do is get rid of all these cheesy kiosks in the mall selling "grills" and the like. These low-lifes started hanging out at the mall at the same time they started bringing in all these kiosks selling tooth jewelry and XXXXL Tupac t-shirts covered in fake diamonds.

I hate to sound heartless, but they could do away with all the section 8 housing altogether and I wouldn't lose any sleep. There are too many people in there that are able to work and be productive, but choose not to work. Or people that don't report income to "double-dip" on benefits. Playing the system designed to give people a hand up has become a way of life for other people. As long as there is a free meal and shelter, why work? Why learn a skill or trade if you can be compensated for your entire life just for being born. It pisses me off that I go to work six days a week to pay for these people that have no desire to contribute to society, only exist to drain from it.
