We try and do something different every year, mainly because it's our wedding anniversery as well. This year is a bummer! It's our 21st, and he will still be in the sand box, so I am not sure what I am going to do!!!! But I am not the only spouse in the area alone, so I am thinking about having a party somewhere for us!!!!
We did go to the Inner Harbor two years ago and had a blast at one of the parties up there.....plus the Fireworks were incredible.
Another year we went to the American Legion, no fireworks, but the drinks were cheap, and the band was awesome and we really had an awesome time....

I went to First Night a bunch of years ago and I wasn't crazy about it. It was too all over the place for me. We had to do a lot of outside walking (it was freezing that year) and waiting on long lines, plus parking was a nightmare and everything just seemed rushed. I've heard that the First Night in Easton was way better, but I've never been to it.

Call me old - whatever - but we tend to either sit at our house w/ a couple of friends or go over to someone's house... and stay there...
I call New Year's Eve "Amateur Night" I dont' wanna be on the roads w/ the newly 21 yo & drinking... no thanx...

Couldn't agree more - driving on NYE is like playing Russian roulette - heck, now that I think about it, driving on route 8 most evenings is pretty much the same!!
We always stay in, make a big dinner and sit fat & happy watching thingy Clark.

I witnessed First Night for the first couple years I lived in Annapolis (as a Middie). I thought it was lame. I won't miss it. I hate dealing with traffic and bars packed to the gills with drunken idiots, so I spend New Years at home.

First night was a 'community' new years celebration - spread throughout town. There were performances, roaming performers and various events to attend. You bought a ticket/button and it gained you entrance to assorted places. It was a good concept, but really never caught on the way the city and business owners had planned.

We use to call the midshipmen SQUIDS when they use to come hanging around the local schools trying to pick up chicks. They loved those girls in the St. Mary's uniforms.

I couldn't get away with that (if I'd wanted to). I wasn't right out of high school like most middies. I'd already been an enlisted Marine before I got accepted. Funny having kids younger than you yell at you one minute, then secretly ask you for advice on leadership the next.

I was with 28th 01-02, and left before the commitment signing after youngster year. Having been an Infantry Marine, USNA wasn't as "military" as I'd hoped. I hear its a little better nowadays.
