Suspended Boy's Parents Seek Change. TRAPPE - Parents of the first-grader suspended Jan. 10 from White Marsh Elementary met with the school's administrators Monday, only to learn their son was the lone child suspended for what has quickly become a tale of playground cops and robbers gone viral. "Across the country there are parents going through this," said mother Teri Bildstein. "Things need to change." Bildstein and the student's father, Army Staff Sgt. Stephen Grafton, said their hearing with White Marsh Elementary Principal Marcia Sprankle was well received and even enlightening. "I think the board was very receptive to our concerns," Bildstein said. "They told us there is a generic disciplinary code that is under revision, but nothing in writing. The final decision to suspend is at the discretion of the principal." The administrators told Bildstein and Grafton according to the Code of Maryland Regulations, bringing a weapon to school or distributing drugs on campus are grounds for automatic suspension, Bildstein said, but imaginative "finger guns" are outside what the discipline regulations cover. Though Bildsein said she found the revelation that no formal code or outline of action exists for what she said the board called "threatening behavior," she found the news their son was the only student suspended for the game more troubling. In fact, Bildstein said according to her son's discipline referral, as well as the school administration and reports from other students' parents, the whole incident was the result of one student telling a teacher who was not inattendance about the "fingers like guns" game on the playground. At no time, said Bildstein, was there an adult present who witnessed the game or anything that occurred that got her son suspended. Her son's referral report said "A student reported that (Bildstein's son) had his hands like a pretend gun and was shooting at children. (The student) admitted it." The report stated that "the student" was in the cafeteria line, which Bildstein said was incorrect. "There were a few parents who stepped forward," said Bildstein. "They told me their children came to them and told them they had been there playing too, but only one student was suspended. I thought it very brave that these children wanted to tell the truth." www.stardem.com/news/local_news/article_ffc194ec-5f97-11e2-8186-0019bb2963f4.htmlThis is from a non approved obama news site!

Holy cow Deep Sea! We need an immediate knee jerk liberal reaction! We need to take this one example and make a broad policy for all the finger guns in the country. Obama and O’Malley need to create a joint commission on how to limit and ban the use of finger guns and how many fingers are allowed on one hand when using a finger gun. I will wait for Biden to deliver his recommendations to Congress later today on how we must stop and limit the use of finger guns.
This would all be done through their limited knowledge of finger guns even though there are over 500 million finger guns in this country every day that are being owned and used lawfully.
I jest, I know, but what are the chances of something like this every happening and the government taking away our oldest and most basic rights?

I remember getting busted for taking a pocket knife to elementary school... they took it from me and made my mom come to get it and told me not to bring it again. If that were to happen now I'd probably have done hard time lol.
This is what happens when "zero tolerance" outweighs common sense and better judgement.

Common Sense has gone out the window..... Unbelieveble at the ridiculousness of some of these things.....
Reminds of the first grader that got suspended from school for sexual harrassment, all because he wanted to kiss or tried to kiss another little girl in class...... he got suspended and I think the girls parents said he should be a registered sex offender... WTF?

And to think, in my lifetime we've gone from kids having shotguns or rifles in gun racks of their trucks in the school parking lot, to banning a 90degree angle made with th index finger and thumb because it resembles a pistol.

I remember getting in a boatload of trouble for bringing gummy-bears to school. The teacher ran me down to the principles office. What's wrong with people nowadays! Wait a minute........I think they were gummy-lighthouses. Whatever, it was just candy!

Pretty small lighthouses, but I guess it is the size of the ship that matters.

I don't believe this is from a obama approved news site? ;D Dad: Son, 6, suspended for using finger as gun Posted: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 11:16 pm Thursday my six-year-old son was suspended from WMES, along with another child, for using their fingers as imaginary guns and pretending to shoot at each other. This is easily the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard a child being removed from school for. This, a completely harmless act of horseplay at recess, was by no means an offense which warranted a suspension. It wasn't an offense at all. It was a pair of six-year-olds playing with imaginary pistols, one of whom has a father who is charged by the United States with using firearms in his defense. If anything, this was a teaching point, an opportunity to discuss with the boys and the remainder of the class the importance of not shooting at one another. Instead, the boys were removed from the playground and their parents instructed to immediately pick them up and any teaching opportunity was lost, action which I interpret as being unwilling or unable to address the situation. Neither of these are acceptable answers. www.stardem.com/opinion/editors_inbox/article_6095b532-5f93-11e2-bbc3-0019bb2963f4.html

This was my generation, yet I've never had the urge to shoot anyone. What is the difference in kids today? Violent video games? Removal of God from schools? Not taught value of life?

No matter what you call it, it will always be smear the queer...and there should be no offense taken. When you play that game, you just want to punish someone and you know someone will get hurt. What fun
