Why is what I have criticism? I can't make this up and I see more of it everyday. Options? Go with what you know works. Go with what your personnel already know how to work on. Go with the least amount of parts, parts in the ground, parts mounted to the house, etc. Don't build a system that only handles part of the process. The rest of the process needs fixed too and if you don't handle it all at once, you get more complicated, more overhead, more BS with our not so faithful government always playing catch-up. I never, EVER said do nothing. (At least I don't think I did) No surprise here. If they went with the traditional sewer you would be punching holes in that. Stall stall stall so the sewer doesn't forever change the Island. Right Deputy? Meanwhile people have a illiquid asset because they can't sell their home because of the stigma of a holding tank. Shocker- Wrong again JB. it's truly unbelievable how you expect anyone to take you even half seriously when you make stupid a$$ comments like that. I have no power to stall anything, I'd love to know just what it is about my posts or my opinions that apparently threaten you or your way of thinking. It seems like you say go now, go cheap, full steam ahead and the heck with the consequences. All I try to point out are some of the consequences to your options. I can't help what people have, people bought into a low lying area with septic. Not my fault, not my problem. It will be my problem WHEN the maintenance costs skyrocket and it falls on the rest of us to bail out your crappy system. Oh that's right, you wont be here as you're probably selling out as soon as you connect.

Meanwhile people have a illiquid asset because they can't sell their home because of the stigma of a holding tank. I am sure there will be some prospective buyers that will rule out SKI because of the $1200 per year additional cost to live here. How much do you have to lower your selling price to make up $100 per month in the mortgage payments? If you get the STEP system, I promise that people that know about them, or have dealt with them will not buy. I wouldn't buy one there, and if you gave me a house in Mayo (south of Annapolis) I wouldn't keep it on a bet.

Not necessarily. If I sold my home, I could pay off the $14K with the proceeds. With public sewer, the home value goes up more than the %$14K I'm paying off. Everyone wins. The new homeowner would only have the $30/month service fee, and not have to worry about septic tanks again. You would be in the minority, most of the homes & lots in Bay City and Cloverfields were sold with the sewer fees not included and not paid off. the lot owners made out like fat rats. $6k lots sold for $40k + W&S, fees now they are $100k

I would be more inclined to bail if nothing ever changes. I like where I live. No plans to run. Just think publis sewer in one form or another is better than what we have. A real waste facility would be great, but costs couldn't be borne simply by the users. It would have to be supplemented by the taxpayers and that would piss lainey off! The last person I pissed off showed up at my house. Jerk!

Orenco hires outside professionals to support their position that the STEP is cheaper in the long run when you account for the wastewater district only having to treat liquids and that the pump/ lift stations need to be serviced as well and equipment like with STEP eventually needs to be replaced to name just a few reasons. I am going with Orenco vs Mr. Conspiracy Guy! I would also argue that traditional sewer is going to cost the other rate payers more not less. How do I decide to go with that position? Orenco and QAC staff. Don't base my decision making on Mr. Conspiracy guy. What do you know anyway.

Please enlighten us deputy. Apparently from what I read, you spend your days fixing step systems. Where are he step systems located you repair? What kind of problems do you experience on a daily basis? How old are the step systems you work on? Has technology advanced in step systems since the ones you work on? Modern pumps are designed not to clog. Where are other communities using the step system in our area? I've been reading about step systems all over the country, but have not read about any in our area. Everything I have read has been positive so far. I would just like to know all the facts, not everyones personal opinions.

So, is this something that will have to be passed in a vote by the population of QAC, or is all the talk just to prepare us for what the commissioners decide to do?

We both work on them. I doubt that JBQ is qualified to add to the flow in Mayo. The Mayo system is about 24 years old, "state of the art" and award winning DESIGN when it was built. "Modern Pumps are designed not to clog", I haven't seen one of those yet, a pump that wont clog. Excuse my doubing ways, I've seen a lot of designs and plans that didn't live up to their promises. Mayo is a big system. The liquids only treatment plant they built for this system works so well, they've had to add on to it and upgrade it since it was built, and within 5 years it will be closed, and it's flow pumped UNDER the South river and to the Annapolis Plant on Edgewood Rd. Hard to nail down a single daily problem, we do get multiple calls daily just on the Mayo system. Failed pumps Clogged pumps Broken wires underground leaking tank leaking discharge line clogged inflow pipe Controls rewired by rookies and wannabes who shouldn't have touched the system in the 1st place. Those are just a few off the top of my head. We basically have 2 guys on call just for these systems' problems after hours. We do not have a similar person on call for the conventional system residence's problems like we do on the STEPs I fought the liquids only/STEP systems when Bay City got their system. I'd like to think I have a part in not getting those. I would NOT consider a house with less than some standard of a sewer system if it were on a sewer system.

It just kills you to have people know more than you doesn't it.....

This system might have more problems than a traditional sewer but with the anti-growth wackos, this is what we got. We still have people crying about $100 and coming up with EVERY excuse in the book so this issue never gets resolved. I have had enough and glad to be getting some type of relief over a holding tank. Still have Lainey complaining her tax dollars are going to pay for it. Can you imagine if they went with traditional sewer for $15 million more. IT WOULD NEVER GET DONE! As someone who is directly impacted by the line, never getting this resolved is worse than any hole you can punch in the STEP system.

I had no choice but I did voice my opinions on the alternative systems. I am 110% happy with the outcome of my water and sewer and would like to see my NEIGHBORS be happy too. These alternative systems suck and you won't believe it coming from 2 people who make their living at them. (and work with other people that do it too) I have no dog in this fight, only that I KNOW that down the road the rest of us will be paying for the unforeseen problems with these sorry systems. I have NO POWER to slow down, derail, or stop the installation of "your" system. I truly feel bad for anyone who is taking the bait for any liquids only system. NO I haven't called anyone, I put the information out there for someone WITH a vested interest to try to run with it. YOU WOULD RATHER "FIGHT" ME. The politicians of this county need to learn how to get federal funding, they had none for the Bay City system, until the very end and they tied it to a ridiculous salary cap that I don't think anyone in the neighborhood qualified for. Take off your GD blinders and look around, and seriously- if you think for a second that I'm fighting with you or doing this to antagonize you, please get some help.

Hey bchevy, I'm in for full public water and sewer. Buld it, bill us $100/month, and send the rest of the bill to the taxpayers. I just don't see it happening. We would need more information, more enviromental studies, more meetings, etc. Meanwhile, nobody gets anything fixed, and the problem just continues.

Frank, these issues have been know by EVERYONE for decades. The county kept allowing folks to buy lots and build all along and the price is being paid now with bad ground water, failing septic fields etc. At best, the county could have only allowed building on lots of at least an acre in size to spread out the risks for failing septic etc. What we have now is are people who bought into these communities knowing there are many empty lots which could be built upon and now want to keep these "lot owners" out by not wanting sewer more than anything else. The proverbial "I am bought my lot and built in time, the rest of you, tough luck." But, hindsight is always 20/20, right?

I bought fifteen years ago and I didn't know. My last three houses has public water and sewer. I found out from a neighbor after a heavy rain. I asked him about the foul odor. I'm sure a lot of us bought here not knowing the problems with septic fields. Realtors don't discuss those things when their showing you a house, only that you won't have a water bill every three months.
