As a conservative, it pains me to admit that liberal former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder inspired me in any way. How did she inspire me? She called Ronald Reagan the “Teflon president.” She did this because she claimed that nothing ever stuck to Reagan just as eggs do not stick to fry pans coated with Teflon.
As an armchair political junkie, I propose that we call President Obama the Kevlar President. When he claims that he has visited all 57 states in the USA, no harm comes his way. When he calls Navy Corpsmen, KORPS MEN, no harm comes his way. When he tells us Obamacare will reduce costs and that we can keep our doctor and keep our plan, no harm comes his way when those promises crumble. When he tells that all his mistakes came from George W. Bush, no harm comes his way.
According to Schroeder, Reagan’s talent as “the great communicator” powered his Teflon coating. Obama’s Kevlar comes partly from the mainstream media. Another part comes from the “race card.” Many say that criticism of Obama amounts to racism.
Imagine Reagan or his staff saying criticism directed at him came from bigotry against Irishmen, former actors, sportscasters or former democrats. No one forced Reagan or Obama to run for President. Criticism comes with the job. Using the race card makes President Kevlar look small.
