Washington Redskins President Bruce Allen responded to the 49 Democrats who are calling for a change to the team’s name, which they claim is racist. According to Fox News, Allen wrote a three page letter which said the 82-year-old name is respectful of Native Americans, and that most Native Americans and Americans as a whole support the name. Almost all of the Senate Democrats – 49 out of 53 – signed a letter addressed to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, asking him to find a way to change the name. Senate Republicans were reportedly not asked to participate. The letter cited the NBA’s recent decision to ban Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life following the release of tapes in which he can be heard making comments about African Americans. Allen and owner Daniel Snyder have held fast, citing the long history of the team. Additionally, Allen’s letter noted that Native American leaders designed the teams logos and that 83% of polled Americans favor keeping the name. Via Fox News: “Our use of `Redskins’ as the name of our football team for more than 80 years has always been respectful of and shown reverence toward the proud legacy and traditions of Native Americans.” Democrats claim that tribal organizations representing over two million Native Americans say they want the name dropped. They have spent time on the Senate floor discussing why the name should be dropped. The NFL has publicly supported the Redskins, saying that the team’s name has always been intended to “present a strong, positive, and respectful image.” And this makes perfect sense: Who would pick a team name that they didn’t believe honored the organization? www.ijreview.com/2014/05/141442-redskins-owner-hits-back-senate-dems-say-wont-change-name/

And if I called u white trash, red neck, and your feelings were disrespected, as well as the red neck culture, you would accept outsiders opinions as the truth?
Grow up. Respect others, after all, we slaughtered the entire nation of native Americans...remember?

I didn't slaughter anyone? Call me what you want, words don't hurt me. If you had slaughtered the entire Native American nation no native Americans would be alive? How many did you kill? Just asking.

Mr. Snyder and his team of lawyers stand firm against losing their logo. They stand to take a big hit re-tooling an apparel and souvenir line, the Redskin's real raison d'etre. Call them what you will, the team has become an unending melodrama and for years unwatchable. Bring it on!

Actually, changing the team name to "Rednecks" should offend no one. Most Rednecks that I know have a better sense of reality than any politically correct sensitivity training coach.

If you change the Redskins name I have a few more team names that should be changed! The Cleveland Browns. How could this team called the browns get away with this name so long? Al and Jesse your missing a big money making opportunity. Notre Dame Fighting Irish..........Enough said. Change the name now! The Patriot! Can't have this name. IRS and Homeland Security will put you on a special list! Just a few I could come up with.

This was litigated years ago, and will be further litigated in Federal court.
The idea is to try to make Dan Snyder lose money by not extending him trademark protection. Then, everyone can sell knock off merchandise without getting in trouble with the law.
The unintended consequence for the PC police may be more merchandise being displayed with the Redskins logo and name.

Redskins Inc. is appealing it.
Who's idea, the plaintiff attorneys or the 30% of native Americans the attorneys managed to dig up? Wouldn't the pirates be better advised to knock off the new logo? Sounds like the REAL police might be freed up to do their jobs.

Think about it for a minute. They don't like the use of the name "Redskins" so what do they do? They rescind their trade mark so MORE people can use it! Doesn't sound very much like a Republican idea to me.

If you have ever lived in the south, 'Yankees' is a derogatory slur toward northerners. Not that southerners have any love towards New York's baseball team, but if we're going to label offensive names, why stop at Redskins? Cleveland Indians logo is a brightly red-faced Indian and most Native Americans find 'Chief Wahoo' an overtly racist caricature, or the Kansas City Chiefs playing in Arrowhead Stadium with their mascot horse 'Warpaint'. Maybe the Fighting Irish implying violence within the Irish community needs to be changed, or the Chicago Blackhawks with an Indian logo similar to the Redskins. Atheists could never be happy with the names Padres and Angels, or the Coachella Valley Arabs, with their mascot straight out of Lawrence of Arabia. What about the Atlanta Braves 'tomahawk chop' representing scalping the heads after battle? What a horrible reminder of a violent past. Luckily, millions of Indians were killed off by Cowboys (Dallas). Let us not forget the Fighting Whites! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Whiteswww.freerepublic.com/focus/news/647579/postsAnd you can still get merchandise: www.cafepress.com/fightinwhite

Sorry but I will, on very rare occasions, side with the libs on this one. None of those other names Chiefs, Warriors, Indians, Braves, Seminoles, Blackhawks, are derogatory racist names like Redskins. I have no issue with teams honoring American Indians, that the term redskin is a slap in the face. I don't think they should be "forced" to change their name, but I hope continued pressure, particularly when it gets to corporate sponsors, convinces them to change the name. After all, nothing matters more to Danny-boy than money. Once it hits his wallet he will fold like a lawn chair.
The Redskins could change to another American Indian name and be fine. I have heard "Bravehearts" thrown around a few times - which I kind of like. They could take that name, keep the existing logos and colors, and lose the offensive name with it.

Snyder would stand to make more money selling merchandise with the new name on it than he would in the same time frame by keeping the name. Money is not the issue.

The Minnesota Senate approved John Hoffman’s (D-MN) bill to change the name “Asian carp” so called because the species originates from Asia, to “invasive carp”. Since Asian carp were introduced in the U.S. in the 1970′s, the fish have spread to dozens of states causing destruction in the delicate ecosystems of the waterways. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been fighting off the most invasive species, the black carp from China, the Silver carp from Vietnam, and Grass carp from China from spreading into the Great Lakes were the fish could do massive damage the regions fishing industry. While arguing his case on the Senate floor, Hoffman said that referring to the fish as “Asian” was hurtful to some people youngcons.com/liberals-passed-a-bill-to-change-this-fishs-name-because-it-is-hurtful-and-offensive/
