The Delmarva Chicken Festival ( www.dpichicken.org/festival/visitor) is this weekend at the 4-H Park near Centreville. Apparently it's the last year for the festival. Anyone been before?

Wondering why it's the last year? Isn't the eastern shore known for chicken? Never been. According to the website, the Delmarva Poultry Industry, the trade group that sponsors the festival, says that "times have changed" and that they are looking at more effective ways at promoting the chicken industry. Maybe attendance has been down (probably due to too many McDonalds).

I'll be heading out there tomorrow night. I've been before. Nothing out of this world but a pretty fun time. And hey, free admission & free parking ain't too shabby. Check it out. You can't beat it for the price

And mediocre chicken quality! That's their problem!!!! Mediocre ain't the word. I went a couple.years back. Who doesn't like fried chicken? I was looking forward to it and seeing the big frying pan. Worst chicken i have ever tasted in my life! Not a single.person in my party could eat it. We threw it in the trash can. What a disappointment. :/ Sorry to see the festival go, but that one experience was enough for me.

Why do so many people wait on line for hours for some fried chicken? It must be free! Bad way of distributing the chicken! No wonder the thing is ending for good. And, the bike show was amazing.......3 bikes, a Christian biker group and nothing to display or learn....wow!
Also Mountainaire chicken is the lowest quality you can get....no thanks and good riddance. 64 years too long.
Not a sermon....just the truth...and sometimes it hurts.

The chicken is cooked in a giant 4-part novelty frying pan heated with uncontrolled propane burners. How good do you think the result is gonna be? It's not about gourmet food or the brand of chicken used. Lighten up. The folks that put this thing on are family farmers, not the "big boys".
This festival was killed after 65 years by apathy and "progress". Once Perdue and Tyson took over the entire Eastern Shore, the poultry industry didn't need things like the chicken festival to help drum up support for itself. Did you look through the display barn? It showed small-scale factory farm techniques and a pen full of birds so genetically altered they can't stand up due to the mass of breast meat they now grow. They showed a side-by-side picture of a halved bird showing a bird from the 50's next to a modern bird. The modern bird had no gut cavity, just meat. I don't know how these things could be alive. This was being celebrated as the latest and greatest. Yum. And this is the smaller producers doing this. The big ones do things you really don't want to know about.
But it IS all about customer satisfaction. Sounds like you should probably demand a refund for your cost of admission.

And the people hating Boy Scouts collecting money was a nice touch too.
Thank you corporate America...you've destroyed the planet and our health. That's why I don't buy their crappy products.
The cost of admission was still too high...a waste of time....which is more valuable than money.

So, I went, and it wasn't the best festival in the world, but I ran into a number of nice, friendly folks throughout my visit. Admission was free and the food was relatively inexpensive by fair/festival standards. Yes, the main line for food was arguably poorly run but there were other local places that were set up for food, and I'm sure they were happy for the business they got from people (like myself) who didn't want to wait in that line.
