There is a new flying club in formation at Bay Bridge airport. The goal is to establish an equity based flying club with 5 to 10 members that are willing to purchase a late 1970's Cessna 172 with a new to mid time engine ( $40k - $60K ). The objective is fly cheaper than renting from the FBO while providing better scheduling options.
If you're a pilot now and perhaps are not current or if you ever wanted to learn how to fly but thought it was too expensive, a flying club can be the way to go. There are substantial cost savings to an equity based, non-profit flying club. The hourly rate can be half of what the FBO charges to rent. A flying club can also offer more liberal scheduling policies which will allow the members to take the plane for vacations or weekend getaways.

I would assume $60K is the purchase price divided by the number of members? You can get a real good low hour (200-500) late 70's for under 60K all day. My friend just sold his 2001 with hardly any hours and all updated Nav equip. for 90K. That was a steal for someone.

I think with 6-10 people you can either do better than late 70s or spend less. Don't forget your insurance will at least double past 4 menmbers.
