I'm sorry to disagree, but it seems Ebola is NOT difficult to transmit. Two trained nurses caught it in full hazmat gear. They knew the infected man was coming, took the right precautions, and still caught the disease. How can this happen if Ebola was difficult to contract? Then, when one nurse gets on a plane where people have NO protective gear, what chance do the other passengers have? From there, it could travel to all the destinations of the people on the plane. Not saying this happened, but the possibility exists. This is what we are trying to prevent. The people of Africa are aware of how the disease is transmitted, but it's still spreading throughout the country. Your post is exactly the opposite of what you are trying to say. Ebola is obviously pretty difficult to contract. The only two people in the US to have contracted the disease are those who worked directly with an individual who was very sick with the disease. The hospital where he was housed has been shown to have NOT properly trained their personnel in matter of isolation and hazmat. Int he meantime this individual flew from West Africa, interacted with numerous people during his time in the US up to the point where he was hospitalized. NONE of those people have become infected. The "sweet spot" for ebola infection is 7-10 days. It's been that long since the nurse flew. Educate yourself with facts. (Fox won't do it.)

That's kind of my thought - it's our arrogance that will result in major problems. When we brought the patients in originally and we sent the military to assist we were sure we knew enough about it to keep it from spreading. When Duncan flew here and was released from the hospital they were sure there was no reason to keep him, yet he had ebola. When he came back to the hospital they were sure they protected those treating him, though two of them came down with ebola. When the nurse called the CDC and was cleared to fly they were sure there was no issue, yet now they are trying to track down the hundreds who may have come in contact with her. Over and over again we are finding that we don't know as much about this disease as we think we do. Our arrogance, our belief that we have the problem under control, and nature's way of showing us how wrong we are is what will get us into trouble. Ebola may be difficult to catch but that doesn't mean we should let our guard down.

If it wasn't that hard to contract, many more people would have it... like frankf just said. Especially in a country where people still believe in nonsense like "spiritual healers" or "pray to end ebola"

Especially in a country where people still believe in nonsense like "spiritual healers" or "pray to end ebola" I must agree, no new U.S. cases. The people directly or indirectly exposed to the initial deceased source, with exception of the two nurses exposed to him at the Dallas hospitable are clearing the quarantine period. The four people he lived with in a two bedroom apartment have passed the 21 day incubation period. Let's hope we have it contained.

I don't see how you can know that or say it. I don't see how a college instructor can rationally make a statement like that. But, I guess language arts and mathematical statistics are a universe apart. I am sitting next to a mathematician/physicist who does not understand what ur saying. Care to explain? Any language will do.

Once again, turn off Fox and get some real news. The hospital has admitted that the nurses weren't properly trained and the suits they were using weren't adequate (obviously). As for those who have contracted it, you're talking about rural West Africa, not Kent Island. The folks there bury their own dead handling the body, clean up etc., with little or no attention to proper hazmat procedures. Funerals are attended by family and friends who in turn are exposed to the virus. It's a whole different world. Had the virus be virulent to the extent the geniuses at Fox would have you believe, there'd be hundreds if not thousands infected in the US by now. The fact that those who lived with the deceased individual in Texas have walked away uninfected attests to the fact that it is not easy to catch.

I hope you're right frankf. I still have a hard time believing nurses in bio-hazard suits contract the disease, and people living in the home with him didn't. Inadequate suits seem like much more protection than the family sharing the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom had.
BTW - there is no 'real' news anymore. All news is biased. Every one. The best you can do is read it all, and use your best judgement.

They probably only had paper thin coverings. A n95 mask with a fluid shield. Nothing I would call a hazmat suit that the cdc guys were wearing on those planes.
