Something is strange. The truck driver was said to be on his way home (Wilmington, DE), yet he was driving south on MD213. He was coming from North Carolina.

What cruzincat said...In addition to going home from Carolina via md213s, this fellow was hauling an 44,000 lbs. load. These facts don't add up, Kojak !

My first thoughts also, but one of many simple explanations: Heading home to DE from NC, I-95 to Rte 50. Off at 213 for fuel and coffee at the gas station there, back on SB 213 to 50 to head home to DE on 404. The 44k load is a moot point when the legal limit is 80k gross. Elementary deduction. The unknown factor is who had the green light and right-of-way at the intersection, no apparent alcohol involvment, no witnesses. Sherlock.

He would have stayed on 301 and, if he had to fuel up, most likely he would have done so at 304. What "Gas" station on 213SB from 50?

If you look at the aerial photos the truck stopped after it impacted with the collage sign. My summation is that if the truck was heading SB on 213 and intending to turn EB on 50 he would have had to have some speed to carry all the way into that sign. Though it is possible the truck was in an evasive maneuver as well. According to the truck drivers Facebook page he resides in Seaford, DE. This would then make sense that he was fueling up at the BP just north of 50 and then making a turn east to go home. It is going to all boil down to the traffic light in the end. Who had the right a way.

Or it could be that the truck driver missed the turn off to stay on Rt 50 at the split and took 213 south. Is the BP a truck stop? If not, it is doubtful he would have stopped there. If he did miss the turn at the split it could be an indication he was tired, and that could be a possible contributor to the accident.

Had the truck come from the BP or, if it had been stopped at the light, would it have had the speed/momentum to carry it into the sign after the collision? If there were no witnesses, then wouldn't that mean the light would have been red for SB 213? Isn't that light red for 213 unless a vehicle trips a sensor? I guess it's all puzzling. There is a possibility that someone had triggered the light change before the truck got there, although after 1AM the odds may be somewhat low.
I am not trying to place blame. I used to drive TT in the 70s, so I know how long it takes to get up to a speed that would carry the truck that far after a collision, and a speed that would allow a safe turn, in my opinion, would not be enough to carry the vehicle that far.
Someone said there are cameras there, but I fail to see one on CHART. There should be though.
