And when it blows for 30 minutes on end.... that means that it is broken once again.. Usually happens when we put our toddler down for a nap on a nice day with the windows open....
Can we finally shut this thing down??? In a world of instant communication can we be honest about it's usefulness??

That siren brings comfort to many and lets us know help is on the way. I hope those who complain never have to dial 911.

We have these cool little things called cell phones which just do the most amazing things! And to be honest, I can't remember a time when hearing the siren gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. About a month ago that thing got stuck, at it's highest range for like 45 minutes. I can't believe no one went over and took an axe to the cable!

If I got hurt I would be much more comforted knowing that I've spoken to a 911 operator and that they are using modern technology to get help to me as quickly as possible. Or I could stand in my driveway blowing an air horn instead of using a cell phone to call 911 I don't really care either way, I actually kind of like hearing it every once in a while, but "comfort" isn't really relevant to how effective it is.

Not everyone carries their cell phone with them while working in the yard or taking a walk. A siren might be the only way in some circumstances for a local volunteer to know that his services are needed.

Ok, Tornado, terrorist attack would be fine.... Every 911 call?
30+ minutes weekend before last was just wrong.. all of the games at Love Point park had to stop. I'm going to buy a DB meter to measure the output. I'll stand on the trail and test the loudness.. I dare say it will violate Maryland code.

If they want to be connected they will carry their cell phone. Should we make the siren louder so that they can hear it over the mower???

Not everyone carries their cell phone with them while working in the yard or taking a walk. A siren might be the only way in some circumstances for a local volunteer to know that his services are needed. If you're a volunteer firefighter you should have your phone on you, or get a pager. No different than any other job that has call in duties. You can bring up edge cases all day. What if they're in the shower, watching a loud movie, mowing the grass, in a store, or any other number of times where they might not hear the siren? The siren goes off and that's it, if you miss it you miss it. If you miss a phone call you can at least see that you have a missed call. The siren is antiquated, it was meant for a time before pagers and cell phones. Again, I don't really care either way, but no one can seriously argue that a siren is a more effective means of communication than a cell phone or pager. Honestly I'd rather keep it simply because it adds to the charm of living in a small town, much like the fog horns that you hear on a foggy day. However, if it keeps getting stuck like it did last month then that might change my mind.

It definitely sucks when you're on the trail or at Old Love Point park. I do feel for the people that live that close to the siren. Although I don't mind it, I would be fine with removing it if it bothered those people that much.

seriously, is this all we have to worry about. dont live near the siren if you dont want to hear it. it has been a way of life around here long before most of us were here. in a community that we are not able to have paid fire fighters we should be praising all the efforts the volunteers actually put in. if you dont volunteer, you have no idea what it really takes to run a firehouse. a little bit of noise wont hurt anybody. except when it gets stuck and then everybody takes notice. Do you really even notice it on a daily basis?

If you are on twitter follow this user twitter.com/ESMDFIREEMS . He is always fast when updating the feed, you hear a siren and check the twitter and you can see what is going on. It is not just for qac, its for the eastern shore. One of the best ways to find out what is going on when you hear the siren.

Was the fire siren here when you moved here? If so deal with it or move ! I love this line of thinking..LOL. Should be followed with.."if they didn't build that bridge you wouldn't be here!" Your siren is just like the Love Point Ferry.... Dead and done.. get over it, move on. maybe it is time for you to move... go east young man.

The siren was the primary reason that we didn't buy in Cloverfields. We live in Bay City where it can barely be heard. The only thing that we have to deal with here are the sirens that scream up and down Romancoke Rd at all hours. It's a bit off topic, but the sirens on the white and blue ambulance are over the top especially when it's late and the road is clear. Between the fire trucks, that ambulance, the police cars, etc., it can sound like we're in the heart of a big city here.
