They finally got close to the house, so I walked down the street and asked. They are for moving the power lines underground. Some day in the near future they will be removing the poles. It will look nicer, but I wonder how much they will be charging us for this to be done. It's not just the power company either. Verizon and Atlantic Broadband uses the poles. They will have to come along and bury their lines as well. Look for those bills to go up when that happens.

DelMarVa Power gave a presentation at one of the KIECA board meetings about this project. Only the power lines are being placed underground. Both Verizon and ABB declined to be included in this project. Once the power lines are underground and that aspect is finished, DelMarVa Power will "top" off the poles at the point the lines for Verizon and ABB are located. The poles will not go away, unfortunately.

I hope this means fewer power outages because there will less trees falling on the power cables. Thank you Delmarva!

Enjoy the big green box that will appear next to the pole as well.

Burying the cables will give better reliability and less outages, PLUS way more esthetically pleasing. A total win-win! Let's hope (and pressure Verizon and ABB to join the party and get rid of the poles all together).

At the meeting, there was no mention of rate increase to pay for this (how can they increase the rates for KIE residents alone?) and this project is part of an overall improvement in service to reduce outages by putting lines underground.
