It looks like the Narrows area will be changing drastically in the next few years. A new Hyatt Hotel going up, Annie's being torn down for a new multi-story complex, a boardwalk of some kind, and more. Anyone have the skinny on what the area will look like when the dust settles? I've heard several different scenarios...

I was at Annie's this morning. It is very obvious that they are finished putting any money into this building. I have not seen carpet that nasty since the Stone Balloon in Newark.

Four 5 level buildings higher than anything on Kent Island. It will ruin the marina as we know it and bring in more problems than we need. Traffic will be a mess.

I think it's great that they're trying to revamp that area. I haven't seen the concept drawings but I'm sure they're out there. Now if they could go ahead and rip down the old outlets and do something similar.
The Narrows has great potential for restaurants and retail if it were cleaned up and invited more foot traffic vs. just going there for a single purpose.

Been targeted for redevelopment for a couple decades. Be interesting to see the conclusions of traffic studies done by those qualified to do so, as opposed to those who "know" things will be a mess. Access to 50 is good there.
Also be interesting to see what the Sheriff has to say about crime. I seem to recall that that one of the knocks on 4 Seasons was that crime would go up because there would be more potential victims, which defies logic. Same was said about the cross island trail. One guy referred to it as the "mugger trail". Didn't happen, and its an asset to the area.
Bring it before the Planning Commission. There are all sorts of conditions that will have to be met. If they meet them, good for them and I hope they make a return on their investment.

So you don't like it and don't offer any rational argument, so somebody is being improperly influenced? Give me a break.
If you can't offer objections based on the projects compliance with the various planning requirements, then you have nothing to say about it. Not your land buddy.

How do you figure more jobs. Most of the building and subs will be short term from the other side of the bridge. More crime, more trash, more flooding, more traffic, With less room at Mears do to the buildings rates will go up at all the marinas. More renters!!!!!!!!!! Kent Island will get closer to Glen Burnie. Isn't this why we all moved here, to get away from the western shore.

Many of the people that work in the hospitality - service field over at the narrows are locals. Heck a few of my neighbors work there! May of these positions can be financially rewarding, just look at the same faces you see over the years.

Island21638 you do know that mears point is not on Kent Island! You keep referring to it as it is on the island.

Island21638 apparently doesn't realize 21638 is not on the Island either ... but he can cut and paste his message repeatedly, with passion! (And with bold font and or all-caps if that helps.)

Thanks for posting those MJ, I was hoping that they would have commercial use under them, doesn't look like that's the case. Either way, it looks like they're going to be pretty nice.

No commercial use just a ton of flooded cars. This is destroy the look of the area. Who needs 5 story buildings around here. Get real people. This will hurt the resale in the area even more than it already has, Kent Island Grasonville,Chester. Do we really need all this building and a homeless shelter. Maybe we can put the homeless there?

A couple quick questions. how has the current mears point marina hurt my resale value? Second, how will a bunch of expensive 1 and 2 bed room apartments hurt it? If anything it might help me! Instead of someone paying 1500 for a 1 or 2 bedroom place. They could rent my house which is 3 for the same amount!

The biggest issue will be the intersection in front of the Fisherman. Next after dogging the semi-nude women on the photo pages above, it looks like there will be no dry boat storage. No big deal most of the boaters at Mears are from New Jersey anyway, right? I saw they plan to install a double roundabout there, so that will help. As I have said before believe it or not, The Narrows for whatever reason is a gold mine. Spend 10 minutes of your time and go to each of the local 4 hotels and check the prices. Trying to get a room on the weekend there is nearly impossible. I'm just waiting for the Jamal property to be re-developed, there is some serious potential there and it is "on the island".

island21638 is coming across as a "negative nanny", plain and simple. It has been spoken in many corners to develop the Kent Narrows area on both sides. You can pretty much bet the house the commissioners, as well as the QACA and KIDL, will work with the developer to make it right for all. As cranky64 says, the area is a gold mine and perfect for commercial development and away from residential areas.

The semi-nude women thing must be something to do with uploading pics through the "Add image to post" service, I have no idea what that is about. Here's the plan for the old outlets..... www.theeisengroup.com/projects/kent-island-chesapeake-bay/

I wonder how many of the apartments will be designated as section 8? Especially considering the new HUD directives.
