I hate to have to say this because every time there is a thread on here about how sucky Safeway is, I consider myself fortunate in that my receipts have always been right. Sure the produce section is pretty bad, but other than that my experiences have been ok.
Yesterday, I went and tried to take advantage of the special pricing of $4.51 per lb. on Open Nature Lamb Chops that I received on my Just 4U savings card. $4.51/lb is amazing if you have ever bought lamb chops ANYWHERE. I come home check my receipt and find that I was charged the full $7.99/lb. for the value pak. I ended up having to call their customer service number on the receipt this morning.
I have to admit, it was a surprise getting a real person on the phone in under 2 minutes. They tried to negotiate my refund on the lamb chops! The actual amount due to me was to be $6.61. The first offer was $5 and a gas reward. Then the offer was $6 and a gas reward. Mind you that in between each offer, the rep was conversing with her supervisor. I told her that was not the point that even though her offer was better, I just wanted what the coupon offer stated. She said that the offer was only good when you buy at the deli counter and not the value pak. I explained to her that no where in the find print did it state those words.
In the end, I got my money, they lost my trust, and she told me that if I go back and buy more lamb, I need to go to the deli counter to get that price. I think I will try that.

Still the best we have in the area. It's a shame.

Sometimes they don't want to give you the price cited at the deli either. I forgot what I ordered there a while back--a pound of turkey or roast beef--it was advertised in the deli in the case at a really good price and when I checked out they tried telling me that it was "yesterday's price." I finally got the price that was displayed, but there seems to be an ongoing issue with price displayed versus checkout price.
Food Lion isn't my idea of the world's greatest grocery store, but they don't seem to have these pricing issues. Plus, the staff that checks you out don't look borderline suicidal.

Who buys lamb chops at the deli counter? I have to admit I like the deli better at the lion than at safeway. I was in the lion just the other day all I needed was a can of beans. I grab it and go. The cashier applied a store club card and saved me 60 cents.

I told her that she had to go to the MEAT counter and get them from the butcher. Butcher tells her that is crazy, they don't have them back there. He tells her to just grab them from the meat case and he will put his label on them. He also mentions that they have a new company doing the coupons and things have been a mess. Fair warning. Be on the lookout to make sure you get what you are supposed to get for what you are supposed to pay.

Haven't looked recently - but their policy was if it didn't ring up at the correct price it was to be free. They don't always automatically do that but the policy was posted at the register.
