Hello everyone. I recently visited the Verizon Wireless Store in Annapolis to obtain a new cell phone. I spoke with one of their salesman, who is a FIOS dealer, and asked him if their service would ever be available on Kent Island. His response, which shocked me, was that FIOS is already on the island. According to him the service is only available to business owners. I asked him about the residents and he told me that "political red tape" was preventing the FIOS service from being offered.
Has anyone reading these boards, including small business owners, heard of this ? Is Atlantic Broadband involved in this ? Does anyone have suggestions, if this is true, as to how this could change ?
I have been frustrated with the internet service provided by Atlantic Broadband and shouldn't have to consider moving just so I can obtain quality internet so I can work from home. Just like the rest of you I thoroughly enjoy living on the "island".
Thanks for your help.
Joe

Not sure whether it is available or not but I've called about getting FIOS with no luck, Wouldn't surprise me if someone is getting kickbacks from ABB to keep Verizon out. I've also had tons of problems with ABB internet service and had them out several times. When I had their TV and internet package thru them, I had them out several times because of internet issues. They replaced the modem twice and placed signal booster thru the home which didn't help. They finally moved the modem/router to another part of the house which didn't seem to make much difference either. I finally dropped their TV service and got Dish Network but kept their internet service (because I had no other choice) but I did buy my own modem and router which helped a lot. May want to try that. Good luck!

They have FIOS in Kent County to the north. Just not Kent Island. :-( Anyone know how Kent County got fiber? They don't even have emission testing in Kent County. fiber.kentcounty.comfiber.kentcounty.com/progress-reportsI think some people lobbied the state assembly to get fiber in Kent County under rural development.

Kent Island has Fiber Optic, Atlantic BB is upgrading areas for their internet service as the demand requires
