Big loaf of crusty Italian Bread or individual crusty rolls Olive Salad Provolone Cheese Mozzarella Cheese Cappicola Ham or Mortadella Hard Salami thinly sliced
To make the olive salad you'll need:
Green olives with pimento Sliced black olives Garlic Giardiniera Mix Olive Oil Cocktail onions (if not mixed in with the Giardiniera Mix) Capers (optional) Oregano Black pepper Celery seed
Mix the above and coarsely chop in a food processor. Allow to marinate a few hours to overnight. Stays good in the frig for a week or more.
To assemble the sandwich, slice the bread, lay a layer of olive salad on the bottom, then layer the meats and cheeses on top. Put the top slice of bread on and enjoy!
OMG these things are good!

Had to giggle at the name of the sandwich....it does sound yummy though! Barb History of the thing goes back to 1908 I think it was in Louisiana. Italian immigrant workers would buy the sandwich from some store in the area and it's stuck to become a favorite. More info here: www.gumbopages.com/food/samwiches/muff.htmlFood history interests me. If I wasn't a computer guy I could probably work in a restaurant.

I know exactly what you are talking about -- I lived in NO before I moved here. I think their sandwiches way 4 pounds and you are full after eating just 1/4 of one. Food in NO is soooo good.
