I always love to hear what others use as a mantra...or the little quotes they use to help others when their spirits are down. I know..I am opening a can of worms with this...but I really would like to hear some. Sometimes when you hear something nice...it turns on a light bulb and helps you get through something difficult. Note: I keep telling myself I am not a religious person... But one of my most favorate sayings is God doesn't give you more then you can handle (although...I may cuss when I am in the middle of the crisis...I seem to always be okay in the end and most of the time....learn something from the experience) Barb

Hi Barb. Knowing what you are going through, maybe this will help. I posted this before, but if you haven't seen it, I'm going to post it for you. Someone sent this to me a while ago when I was going through a very similar situation as yours. You may need a box of tissues... parentswish.com/site01/big.htmlSending a hug your way, CG

"Don't let the bastards get you down" - John Wayne
It's not religious...but I must use it about 20,000 times a day.

Here's a link to the slogans I use. They're written on index cards, get shuffled, and I pull out one a day to focus on: thefriendlyfunnel.quakerism.net/?p=139My favorite, which is taped to my monitor, is "Don't expect applause". I have a lot of trouble with this one.

This tto isnt religious but it is something I have used for many many yrs with my student paramedics as well as co workers when they get down on themselves over a life/death situation. Do the best you can, with what you've got, at the time, under the circumstances. That's all you can do. Along with that goes, if you can change something then do it but if its out of your ccontrol then let it go.

"If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." ---Thomas Edison “Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you represents determinism; the way you play it is free will.” ---Jawaharal Nehru “After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box.” ---Italian Proverb “It is foolish to fear what you cannot avoid.” Stultum est timere quod vitare non potes. ---Publius Syrus

Oh I thought of a couple more...not religious....but inspiring to me 1) "Courage is fear holding on a minute longer." --- George S. Patton 2) "Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions." --- The Dalai Lama 3) "You don't get to choose how you're going to die, or when. You can only decide how you're going to live now." --- Joan Baez 2) "

THere are only two absolutes in your life: You are born and You will die: What happens inbetween is up to you.

just something to put some things in perspective:

While I disagree with his thoughts on religion & God, Nietzsche had others I do really like.
“I still live, I still think: I still have to live, for I still have to think.”
“You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”
The latter quote is one reason I do try to be resspectful when I disagree with people. But there are always people that ultimately cause me to fail miserably in the attempt to be respectful.

Some inspirational, some well....................
Some desire is necessary to keep life in motion.
There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.
The meek shall inherit the earth, but they won't avoid probate.
You might be lonely, miserable, depressed and suicidal, but none of that matters--as long as you're happy!
The main thing is keeping the main thing the main thing.
The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised.
I am realistic - I expect miracles.
In order to succeed you must fail, so that you know what not to do the next time.
Hey Barb, sorry probably not what you were originally looking for but if it brings a smile to your face so be it.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. It is more important than facts, the past, education, money, circumstances, failures, success, or what others say & do. It is far more important than appearance, gift or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home.
The remarkable thing is that every day we have a choice regarding the attitude that we will embrace. We cannot change our past. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.
-Charles Swindoll

We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves.
The Creator has not given you a longing to do that which you have no ability to do.
When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
Your friends will know you better in the first minute you meet than your acquaintances will know you in a thousand years.

Inspirational sayings from my two sons:
You saw it first, so you have to pick it up.
I know I am, but what are you??
You can't prove it.
and finally, drum role please...
You smelt it, you dealt it.
