Has anyone seen Marley & Me yet? If so, how sad was it?

Just read the book. If the movie follows it, it gets pretty sad at the end.

I saw it. Very very good movie. Lots of laughs. If you've ever lost a pet you better bring lots of tissues. I lost my dog 4 years ago and as I'm typing this my eyes are getting misty remembering the movie and my beloved pet. Go see it. The whole theater was crying, you won't be alone. -DG

Has the book been good ? I wanted to read it before I see the movie !! I do oil paintings of Dogs and am a huge Dog Lover but I am not too good when they pass away. SO I am not so sure whether or not to see it before I read the book. It looks so cute on the commercials. www.kathylporter.smugmug.com is my site to see my artwork. I LOVE dogs, I have 4 !!

Bought the book a couple of weeks ago, laughed my backside off through most of it. I kept thinking it must have been a true experience living with that dog. I was finishing it around 1 this morning, crying my eyes out. BUT, Grogan did a really nice job, so those of you who started the book, I recommend finishing it. Just pull out the tissues... I totally recommend the book to everyone, not just anyone who has, or has had, a dog. It really is about family, but esp how their dog helped them to create what became their family.

C'mon Sequel, if I can get through it, anyone can!!!!!!
It was a really good book, and I would consider reading it again.
On the same topic, I was watching the "Animal Planet" channel - they've had "Dogs 101" on, talking about different breeds and their suitability for different types of people. They were talking about labs, and they had a couple of people on talking about their dogs. One guy whose dog did search and rescue at the World Trades after 9/11 was on, and he had just lost his dog shortly before the interview. I felt so badly for the man; I know it's like losing a family member. It may sound a little mean of me, but I tend to be suspicious of anyone who wouldn't shed tears after losing a pet - they are so unconditional in their love, it would be impossible to not show feelings.
I still miss all three of my cats, and my last, Murdock, has been gone for almost 20 years. (Hubby is allergic to cats; it's either him or a pet, and some days it still is a tough decision). ;D

...oh, wow .... I'm sure glad I missed that episode......I just can't let go of the loss and heart pain from losing two within 8 months of each other -- one of which had been struck by a red vehicle and left for dead on Route 8 just minutes before I found him after searching for hours and hours in the rain and actually just coming up on one year now........no, Marley will have to live forever in my mind even though now he's gone deaf.....'cause I'm not finishing the book....

Ah, I remember you talking about losing the one dog. As amazing as the devotion between a dog and his/her owner, is how unbelievable it is that anyone would leave a pet by the side of the road. I am so sorry about your loss there; I'm more sorry for the heartless bast#$& who didn't have the sense God gave gnats to stop and try to help your pet. Well, put Marley aside for a while until you're ready. I will tell you that it is pretty cathartic reading. I was ready for a good cry last night, and it helped. But, if you're at that point where it's too raw, you'd be best putting it on the shelf for a bit. As for the guy on "Dogs 101", it got me to thinking about a friend and the leader dog she lost last year. I had the privilege of meeting him - he was a black lab, and had the most incredible personality of any dog (maybe of any person!) I've ever met. The day he died (had a very aggressive cancer), I felt almost as bad as if he had been a close friend of mine. I've begun donating to the Lions Club because of that goofy hound, because he meant so much to the people who knew him. Yeah, shelve the book for a bit, Sequel...

Done....
what a terrific thing to do, donating to the Lion's Club in memory of your friend's wonderful dog! That aggressive cancer is sneaky and ugly -- that's how I lost my other dog. No warning at all with the type she had -- until they burst.
On a brighter note, you know, I really like that word "cathartic"....I think I'll try to slick that one in on that Advanced Scrabble thread, right next to yum-yum and goo-goo the first chance I get. I've been trying to kick KIcarpenter's arsh -- but lately seem to be messing up and he's having waaayyy too much fun with it. Ya wouldn't want to help a sista out, would ya! ;D It would be very gratifying......

I am way too lost on the rules of that thread! But I'm glad to give you "cathartic" - I love words like that! I figured that donating to the Lions was one way of remembering him, but I also know that his owner is very involved with the Lions, considering that they are so supportive of initiatives for eyesight.
