I'm at $300-$400 every month. 2700 Sq Ft, new windows, pellet stove, and those curly light bulbs everywhere in the house. What am I missing?

I'm at $300-$400 every month. 2700 Sq Ft, new windows, pellet stove, and those curly light bulbs everywhere in the house. What am I missing? How efficient is the water heater? Consider the age and maintenance performed on it too. How about the age of the fridge and if you have one, the deep freeze? If new, not much you can do about them except make sure air can freely flow around them and make sure the door gaskets seal well. For this time of year, an attic fan is a must!

My electric bill was 97.00 this month for a 1200sqft house with four bedrooms. Maybe its because we don't use the air

How much can a hot water heater use? I know it's electric, and it's old, but that much difference? We do have two refrigerators and a hottub that run a lot. Now the pool pump will be running along with the air conditioning, I better get a part-time job!

Under normal circumstances, the water heater is the #2 user of juice 35-40 amps 220v. My hottub runs on 220 for the pump and heater but I forget how many amps. It runs less now that it's summer. Toss in pool eqipment, electric range (maybe), etc. etc. It sounds like your house is a beast from a power consumption point of view.

I guess that's why Delmarva Power usually sends me a Christmas card and a jar of Vaseline every year!

Frank you're lucky. We never get the Vaseline.

MOST water heaters are on a 30 amp breaker and don't see 30 amps.
Anyway- WHO HAS THE BEST ELECTRIC RATES?

Brian did you say 97.00 a month, and high?! Man that's why I love WI and the fact you don't have public welfare.. or you do but it's almost non existant Yeah. I am used to being in the $70's a month for electric and $20's for gas a month. We still are in the high $20's for gas, but electric as I mentioned is now at about $100. I am not complaining after hearing the prices on this forum, but as I said before, it's all relative. I am sure we are paying it somewhere else.

Lynn - I'm not really sure, but I've always heard that there are on-peak & off-peak times and that after like 9 (I think) was "off-peak". It was like that where I used to live but perhaps delmarva isn't like that... dont' know for sure - just habit...
