Just is case someone doesn't already know.
THERE'S ALREADY IMPACT FEES (TAXES) ON NEW CONSTRUCTION, AND IT'S NOT A LITTLE BIT.

Great arguements on both sides. Thanks for that.
I'm going to have to side in favor of the Impact Fee. Hoping I am not naive in believing the money will go to real needs around our community.
Glad I got my building permit last month for my addition.

www.sentinelwhispers.com/Above has update on impact fees for home additions - Commissioners decided against it after much public input. At the end of the article, Wargotz says something about public mistrust of government, and the crowd laughs and claps. Interesting.

Mikey - would you have agreed with the impact fee if you hadn't previously received your permit last month ? probably not.

I served on the original committee that was formed to look into and ultimately recommended the present impact fee in 1990 or 1991. I can tell you that it was intended solely for new construction of residential and commercial units to help pay for needed expansion of schools and fire fighting equipment.
The problem with new residential house construction is most families come from out of the area. That is not the case with most new additions. A change of life style or needed extra room, shouldn't be met with an additional fee above the permit cost. If an addition means increased value to the property, the state and county will benefit by increased assessment.

At the Commissioners meeting last week, it was standing room only. Many citizens were there to speak out against and comment on the impact fees. I never got to speak on the matter, but didn't really need to because so many others said the same things I was going to.
The Commissioners made many changes to the impact fees so, they tabled the issue for now. However, one thing they agreed to was to eliminate all impact fees for new additions. They agreed that new additions do not have an impact and therefore do not need any impact fees.
So, you can build away (of course you still have the building permit and all of the other fees) but no impact fee.
