My husband and I are interested in building an addition to our existing home. Anyone familiar with a reputable contractor in the area that is reasonable. Thanks.

Unfortunately, as I sit under a leaking roof installed last April, I can't recommend anyone. I can however, tell you who not to hire -- Capozzi Construction. Since it is now close to 11 p.m., I am too tired to list the many reasons why, but to sum it up quickly, poor workmanship. Good luck in your search.

If your adding a sun room (three or four season) to your home, I highly recommend Bay Porches. In 2001, they added a four season sun room to my home. They were professional, courteous and timely. I just can't say enough good things about them and their product. They are a local company as well.
I also wanted to enclose/screen in my deck (summer 2005) and contacted Champion. They came out when they said they would, but eventually they sent me a letter declining to contract the work. No reason, just a one sentence letter saying no thanks. I assumed that they did not want to take on a "small" job. I then contacted Mike Boone of Boone Contracting (on the Island). Mike came out when he said he would and e-mailed me a quote. Although we declined (other obligations), when we're ready, we'll be going back to Mike.
Lastly, make sure you get more than a single quote. For both projects, we got three quotes. Also ask for references.

WHATEVER you do, here's some don'ts: Don't get someone who "works on the side" Most likely this wiill take forever, and end up costing more in the end. Don't pay any more than 1/2 of the job cost until it's 100% done, and DONE to your satisfaction. Don't let your husband, or wife, pay it off when you're not home! (I've seen this one) Don't let the contractor talk you out of getting permits, this is a sign of a fly-by-night loser. Don't use someone who isn't licensed & bonded, ask to see this!
