I've been wondering, I love in Caroline COunty, no one here complains.. why are the "Islanders" the only ones who moan and wine all the time?

D- seems fair. Using public school standards he would probably squeak by with a D for now.

GBM - not all "Islanders" have the attitude, but the ones who do (and we all know who they are) either have ulterior motives that they don't want to divulge for "hating law enforcement", or feel they shouldn't fall under the same laws and/or regulations as the rest of society. They would have the same attitude regardless of where they lived.
For the most part, the negative "law enforcement" posts have shown minimal to no concrete justifications for the comments.

Like I've said, most people don't care until something happens that directly affects them. Apathy. I get it.

Outlaw - obviously, there are negative situations that affect individuals, however, to constantly bash police in general for an incident that happened (either one officer or agency) is ridiculous. Have you had a situation that causes you to view the police in general negatively - and no, I'm not talking about hearsay from a bunch of teenage girls?

Shadow, the incidents I related about the girls are more than hearsay, but of course there is no way to prove that to you. My family has dealt with the police in other situations involving our neighborhood more than us directly, and most of these experiences have been negative. Suffice to say we have had to deal with a drunken child molester and another career criminal who was a drug dealer/car thief; the best thing I can say about him is he was acquitted of murder. I don't hate the police. On the topic of sheriff's office, in my opinion, we need a sheriff who is not a good old boy, someone who will take charge and weed out the bad apples. I understand if you don't agree/don't believe me/don't care. I'm venting. I'm expressing my opinion, much like the police do when they talk to the "Bay Times" or appear on the asinine county TV channel.
Peace.

What bugs me about the tv station is I can't hear half of what's going on at some of the meetings they broadcast, such as school board and zoning, because people aren't speaking into a mike. I hold out hope that the conditions can improve though, same as I do with the sheriff's office.

I've been wondering, I love in Caroline COunty, no one here complains.. why are the "Islanders" the only ones who moan and wine all the time? Just a guess: Because a majority of the issues on the Kent Island forum are related to Kent Island issues that affect Kent Island residents? Of course this board is not limited to KI or those who live here (I do). Everyone is free to post here, the more the merrier. But it shouldn't be surprising that the residents of the island are more concerned about the events that take place on the island. Or maybe it's just because we live too close to the stress of the Western shore

Well said, Falgar. And why do people moan and whine about why islanders moan and whine? Oh, the irony.
Newsflash: Some people have nothing to add to this topic except...WAAA! This might be a job for Nanny 911.
Now on a positive note. The deputy at the school games tonight was not sitting in his car doing nothing. He was out of his vehicle watching for signs of trouble, and for that I commend him. I'm certain his very presence drove any would-be troublemakers into hiding. And on my way home, I was not forced off the road by any speeding police cars. Progress at last! I feel absolutely euphoric, but that could just be my allergy medication kicking in.
Peace.

As long as they don't douse the crowd with mace like they did a few years ago. By the way, wonder what happended to the deputies in that case, anyone know? I know a bunch innocent kids got a ton of mace during the incident.

The mace innocent at the basketball game many years back. Nothing happened to the deputy or deputies! That was like over 6 plus years ago. Long forgotten by most!

The mace was a few years ago......but the point remains Let's see, how about something more recent, like the 80 year old guy in Centreville that was arrested, bruised and taken from his house only to find out that the warrant that the Deputy was serving was suppose to be on a guy in his 20's. Only a 60 years difference in age mistake! Guess the good 'ole tax payer's will be ponying up some more money for the fine job our "men in black" are doing. Oh yeah and what happened to the 30 million dollar law suite from a couple a years ago when the Deputy shot the guy in Wye Acres off of Bennett's Pont Road in the neck that didn't have a gun on him? Some things just never make the news

Shoreman, As usual, the facts you are talking about the elderly male are not even close to what took place. Like clockwork, you have no clue on what you are talking about as most citizens do not which is not your fault because you’re not privileged to the inside information. The incident you speak of is currently under investigation and I will not comment on the facts to that case. The true facts will come out in the investigation and all will reveal itself. Once again there is more to that story than what you read in the newspaper or what your neighbor tells you. As far as former Deputy Barbre’s shooting of fleeing suspect Mr. Andrew Pope, I have no clue on the status of the civil lawsuit filed by the suspect. A complete investigation of the shooting was conducted and the deputy was fully cleared of any excessive force, criminal activity and did not violate any of the agency’s policies. As far as civil liabilities, who knows and a lawsuit is almost always filed on police involved shootings. That’s standard protocol with the suspect or person (s) who are shot. Not a big shocker that the suit was filed. What exactly was supposed to happen to the deputies that sprayed mace at the sporting event to break up a large disturbance. Perhaps next time when the police are working a security detail at the high schools, we should put the disorderly people in time out chairs with dunce hats on.

They must be doing their "investigations" while sitting in time-out chairs wearing dunce caps. "Integrity, community, pride, dunce" - paint it on the police cars.

To answer your question, on how it is going, let me tell you.... This is the first time our new sheriff has stood up, to protect you and the deputies, You would not have this in the past sheriff. I know community members and deputies in this office, and do not always agree with our new sheriff, however he is willing to hit issues head on. He is willing to address the needs of the community and YOU. I do not believe outlaw and shoreman, I believe that you are just stirring the pot, and creating this web blog, to be self serving.
Prove me wrong, Call him and see how quickly he responds. I bet that you will not be man enough to place an appology on this web site. Quit complaining, and spend as much time making things right as you do stirring this web blog. Get the message, viewers are tired of hearing you complain, and the amount of wasted time you spend here.
I found out that the NEW sheriff did not even order the Dodge cars, it was the past sheriff. BUT the new sheriff saved over 1400.00 by changing the paint to all black, and going with generic decals. Plus, the name on the car, was not even paid for with your tax dollars, it was placed on the car after the quote was given, Yes, NO CHARGE TO YOU. So, get your facts straight, and ask him yourself. If you are man enough to do so.
Enough from me, Your turn to tell all these folks that you are wrong again. Quit whinning!
Thanks to all those whom support law enforcement, either troopers, or deputies. This is a job that even i would not want. How many of you would lay your life down for a community as blessed as ours? Jason Schwentz and Michael Nickerson did a few years ago, yup, in the good ol queen annes county. Shot dead, during a music complaint!
Give these guys a chance, especially your new sheriff, if you don't like that...you run for office...We'd be worried, to have you as the next sheriff.

As I've said, I sent him a complaint in writing to him and the commissioners. The commissioners responded; the sheriff did not. Of course, if I was related to him or a friend of his, as you probably are, I'm sure I would have been treated differently.
I have given him a chance. I had no predetermined notions about him at all when he was elected. By plastering his name and simple-minded logos all over the cop cars he's shown what he's about - promoting himself.

aww come on, now you have to throw the "probally related" or sterotypical attitude into this. Give me a break, you are obviously sterotyping deputies and police. First of all, I do not believe you about filing a complaint, and the comissioners responding and the sheriff not.
So, as far as the cars, Sounds like you should call him and ask him, what the cost was. I would be proud of you for doing that. Seems you can "chat" but can not follow up with "talk". So, hide behind your computer, and blast the ones who will be here to save you when you cant get help from others.
Sincerely, Emily in Cloverfields, for now. Ps- Hint - No relation or not a friend! Thats more than you can offer - Change your screen name to Hideawayman!

Cloverfields, you really should send your love letters directly to the sheriff. I respect your opinion, but I still think he's a turd. Different sheriff, same old stuff - corruption, nepotism, good old boys. I could care less whether you believe me or not. Only time will tell if opinions will change, but for now we'll have to agree to disagree.
P.S. "Probally" is not a word. You write just like same deputy. Both of you should avail yourselves of a 3rd grade language arts workbook, although I know it would be a challenge for you. I mean this in a caring way.

As for the first time the Sheriff is standing up for "you and the deputies", don't forget the first thing on his agenda was a pay raise for himself, the second was to have his name put on the police cars. As a matter of fact, he was courting the commissioners for a raise BEFORE the election. As for hitting the issues on the head, you have got to be kidding me. I have never known him to be sincere about anything that does not benefit him personally and I've known him for a long time. As to whether you believe me or not, that's it not the point. The issue is integrity, which he has none. The new Sheriff DID in fact order the new cars. Remember, he stated he was the "senior administrative deputy" whatever that meant during the election! And oh yes, one of his cronies, who carried his water during the election, just happens to work for the company that installs the lights on the police cars.........in Prince Georges County! (no conflict there Now that's staying local and saving YOUR dollars too I guess. As for saving money on the cars, give me a break. The police cars can be ordered two tone from the factory AT NOT COST TO YOU! The only reason they were paying $1,400 extra is because the cars were ordered black and they took them to a body shop in Easton to have them painted grey. (now that made a lot of sense)The only thing that costs US extra was the printing and installation of his name. Of course we don't want to talk about the Dodge Durango that the K-9 Deputy had assigned to him and the County had just spent $3,000 on special K-9 equipment only to have the new Sheriff have it removed at OUR expense because HE wanted it for his own use. All is well until a serious crime occurs then, unfortunately, we will be witness to what Mr Community Policing is really made of. Yes he will show up at Community Meetings but that is nothing more than campaigning on the job, just as he did for years prior to the election. And if you talk to people that attended his Community Meetings in the past, like I have, you will see that his record of following up on what he says he is going to do is dismal at best. I for one totally support "professional law enforcement" to the fullest. Unfortunately, a pretty smile and a good tan is what got us our Sheriff, not experience and integrity. Call it whining if you like, I call it facts.
