Hey hunters...............tell me is hunting allowed in Terrapin Park? My concern was that my neighbor just told me while she was walking the trails over there this morning she spotted a bow hunter in a tree. That scares the hell out of me as we walk the trails over there often. Please advise & if this is allowed when does season end?

I doubt very seriously it is allowed -- it's a nature park -- call the Sherriff and ask them -- that's ridiculous.

You can hunt on the property that is next to the park it is privite property. If you saw him I am sure he saw you. Your safe unless you have antlers on your head.

Your safe unless you have antlers on your head. That's NOT a true statement, many a hunter been shot because of another over anxious hunter shot a bush that moved. Happens just about every year.

I hope you were kidding on that statement, because that couldn't be further from the truth. Another question for you all, is hunting allowed on Sundays?

You can certainly hunt on private property, and if it borders the trail, yeah, you can hunt there, errrr, someone can hunt there, with permission of course. I'm not sure about Sundays, didn't used to be able to, not sure about now.

Sharon, tell your neigbor to call the DNR. Hunting is not allowed in the park and today was not one of the Sundays that hunting is allowed. There are a few Sunday hunting days in MD but they are for hunting on private land only.
Call the DNR and tell them exactly where in the park your friend saw the hunter in a tree. There is a good chance this lawbreaker will repeat again next Sunday.. he probably thinks Sunday is a good day to sneak in..
Those of us who are responsible and ethical hunters do not condone illegal activity by criminals who claim to be hunters and outdoorsmen..
Best, BC

I hear the guns EVERY Sunday, starting at sun up. My property butts up to a VERY SMALL section of woods and I actually see and hear the hunters walking through them. It is the old abandoned Benton farm. Mallard Run should be worried too of stray bullets. My son isn't allowed in the yard weekends. What kind of gun shoots off a lot of bullets, one after the other? It sounds like they are using a machine gun. The deer don't stand a chance against one of those guns, I'll tell ya that. Over kill.

I got a neigbor that leaves his dead deer carcas in those same woods. He's an Annapolis cop and his wife is a witch, so we say nothing.

I know who you are talking about. He throws the deer and guts about 20 feet into the woods right behind his house. I would rather have a pack of four wheeling teens, a crack house and sex offender live in my neighborhood than that family. I kid you not.

If you seen him in a tree down at Terrapin Park, it was probably U.S. Border patrol waiting for the parties to break up on the beach.

You may not hunt in Terrapin Park. Please call 1-800-628-9944 immediately when you identify the hunter. This is the Natural Resources Police Communications center open 24/7. If they are on private property they are legal no matter how close to the trail they are but they can't shoot onto the Terrapin property or track a deer that may be shot and run onto the park. In Queen Anne's County hunting on sundays is illegal except for a few select days and it is on private land ONLY: shotgun season November 30 and bow season Nov 2. They start a half hour before sunrise and have to stop a half hour after sunset. They cannot kill or track a deer onto a property without permission. They cannot hunt on any property unless they are the landowner without written permission. My guess is someone has seen a big buck and regardless of the illegality is bow hunting the park for the kill.

Thanks for all the good info guest. I didn't know half of what you wrote about. Tell me, what kind of weapon can they use to shoot the deer? Is any type of gun legal? Is an automatic weapon allowed?

Additional info from Gary Repeki from NRPC, he will have patrols out there stepped up. Also signs posted NO HUNTING. Another number to call right into the 24/7 line is 410-260-8888.
Above info from just a thought is correct. NO HUNTING 24/7 in Terrapin Park. Hopefully this will be an isolated thing because it is a scarey thought.
Be careful out there folks. Be safe.

In QACO there are three methods for hunting deer which are legal. 1. Firearms season is 11/29-12/13/08 and 1/9-1/10/09. QACo only allows shotguns and not rifles. 2. Muzzleloader season 10/16-10/18/08, 10/20-10/25/08, and 12/20/08-1/3/09. 3. Bow hunters - 9/15-10/15/08, 10/20-11/20/08, 12/15-12/19/08,1/5-1/8/09, and 1/12-1/31/09. The exact dates change each year. The lesser weapon may always be used in any season. i.e. a bow may be used in firearms or muzzleloaders seasons and a muzzleloader may be used in firearms season. The 1-800-628-9944 is just the toll free version since NRP Communications is in Annapolis.
Most hunters are legal and safe. Hunters are now required to take a hunter safety course. Its the bad ones who give the rest a black eye. Hunting is necessary to keep the deer from starvation or disease. Maryland does not have many natural preditors. In order to control the population the State requires each hunter to check in their kill. Once a buck is taken in any given season two does must be taken before another buck is killed. This keeps the trophy hunters from ignoring the females. Each hunter in QACo is allowed a total of 4 deer for any given season for a total of 12. Legal hunters wear blaze orange and are required to do so for muzzleloader and firearms season regardless of the weapon used. If it is bow season only orange is not required. There are allot of good, respectful, legal hunters out there and it is unfortunate when someone steps outside of the law and ruins it for them.

It sounds like they are using a machine gun. The deer don't stand a chance against one of those guns, I'll tell ya that. Over kill. Alcatraz.. what you describe does not sound like hunters but hooligans with guns. Unfortunately, anybody out in the woods with a gun is described by many as a hunter. Not always true. Hunters rarely shoot more than one or two shots at game. Most hunting weapons do not hold more than 5 shells, and for upland game and goose and duck hunting the maximum number of shells in the gun is three. This is not a hunter option, guns have plugs in them to stop putting in more than three shells. In this part of the country, the exception is the waterfowl hunters. it is common to have several hunters in a single goose or duck blind. Shotguns may have up to three shells. If each of 6 hunters empty their guns when a flock of geese come in, you could hear up to 18 shots in a few seconds.. As just a thought posted above, there are only two legal Sunday hunting days in MD, and there are no legal hunting days in Terrapin Park.. What the "hunter" you described was doing is in my book poaching. He was hunting in a closed park, and on a day that is not legal for hunting. His actions give all responsible hunters a bad image. Best regards, BC

Thanks for all the good info guest. I didn't know half of what you wrote about. Tell me, what kind of weapon can they use to shoot the deer? Is any type of gun legal? Is an automatic weapon allowed? Good lord, do you know anything about hunting? In Queen Anne's County you can hunt deer with a muzzleloading rifle during muzzleloader season. This shoots one round, then must be manually reloaded from the muzzle end which usually takes about a minute or more. You can also hunt deer with a shotgun during firearms season. A shotgun usually holds 3 to 5 rounds and is not capable of automatic fire. Standard modern rifles are not allowed for deer hunting in QAC. Automatic weapons are not allowed for hunting anything in Maryland. Most deer hunting in MD is done from tree stands or other elevated positions so not much to worry about as far as stray rounds go. If you miss, the bullet just continues downward into the ground. Furthermore, the use of shotguns (which shoot large heavy slug rounds) instead of rifles means the round will not travel far at all if you miss from a ground position. Hope this allays your fears a bit. ST
