Anyone know why they are having the 4th of July celebration at the Narrows on Thursday (7/5) instead of July 4th? Seems most people are off work on Wednesday.

Rich? Have to let you, and all of the other Kent Island and Stevensville residents know, the 4th of July, has always been a huge enjoyment. Nothing like sitting out on the deck, and watching all of the firework celebrations going off all around the Chester River.

BChevy - Yeah, I remember where I'm at, but that still doesn't justify celebrating on a day other than the 4th (unless, of course there's a rainout). Could be that it's cheaper to get a company to shoot them off, bands to play, vendors to show up, etc.,a day after? Don't know, but Independence Day wasn't on the 5th

I wasn't agreeing with it, it's just nothing new around here.

Oh that is just rediculous! A 4th of July Celebration on any other day than the 4th of July??? I don't care where we are....last time I checked the 4th of July is on everyone's calendar. I would love to hear the reasoning behind that decision. And, on a side note, just because it's been done that way before does not mean it has been done the RIGHT way before! Don't the citizens of this area have a say so? I love this place, but good grief..that's taking it a bit too far!

The way I hear it is that the since the 4th is in the middle of the week - they are doing it on Thursday because people are more likely to take a long weekend Thur-Sunday than Wed to Sunday AND that apparently they (the bars over there) have regular events on Thursday - basically $$$ is what it comes down to...

Ask 10 people, get 11 reasons...
I understood it was to not conflict with Annapolis. Always done that way, IIRC.

My problem with it is that a lot of people are only off work for Wed - the 4th. We will be back at work on the 5th and will miss everything.

but the fireworks aren't until after 9pm... How will someone miss it because they're back at work? I'm missing something.

GBM, I had to work from 11AM to 6PM on the 4th too. No O.T. for me though - it's salary.
Who's going out to the fireworks on KI tonight (the 5th)? I want to go but am not sure where to watch them from. Maybe Red Eyes?

We're not sure exactly, but because we have kids we aren't going to Red Eye's. But if anyone else has suggestions - It would be appreciated...

I would like to go watch them tonight, but I am by myself, and I haven't a clue where to go or to park. Seems crazy for me to go bymyself and take up a parking space or add to the craziness for just me.....So I guess I will stay home!!

You can usually just ride up to the Narrows and park "anywhere"...
We've had luck parking at the old narrows bridge and wandering under the new span and watching near the ramp, from Red Eyes, from a friend's house near the marina, and from a boat... we might take one of the boats up this year and anchor in the channel. Depends on the weather (dark-night, rough-water ramp recoveries suck).
