I caught a segment about the Goatman thing a couple weeks ago. Never heard of it before that. Wasn't it tied into the Exorcist story somehow? Too creepy for me!

I have never heard about the Goatman thing but the Exorcist story started in Mt. Rainer , MD., the family went to Louisianna because the devil told them to during the ordeal. That is where the aunt was from who was close to the boy. She had come from Louisanna to visit them in Mt. Rainer and she is the one that got him started with the Ouija Board. She died then all hell broke loose. The boy went to the hospital in Georgetown, where the priest died on the steps.

www.strangemag.com/exorcistpage1.htmlAbove is part one to a five-part article debunking a lot of the Exorcist stuff. Very interesting example of myths and lies being printed in newspapers and becoming accepted as fact. Turns out the so-called haunted boy was a bratty kid who lived somewhere called Cottage City. Whew! I like this version much better.

I don't think Georgetown faked anything, they have quite a reputation. There may have been some things in the movie that were not based on fact but believe me the facts are scarier than what is in the movie. It happened in the 1950s, they lived in Mt. Rainer, he now lives in Florida.

The movie sucked. The book was much better. Matter of fact, I laughed throughout the movie. Should have been billed as a comedy.
Was just flipping around the dial. Some hokey "horror" movie was coming on. Showed South American indians on the hunt... Howler monkey's in the trees, macaws flying around, anaconda snakes.
They were hunting a tiger. Uh... wrong continent!!! Are these movie makers idiots or what?

that article does not dispute what I said, other than the typo type mistakes St. Louis = Louisianna and 1949 vs 1950s. Cottage City is close to Mt. Rainer.....if you live in St. Margarets or Cape St. Claire, your address is Annapolis.

Mt. Rainier and Cottage City MD., are right next to each other, VERY easy to confuse the two. The "Exorcist House" burned down in the late 70's or early 80's. The steps leading up to the house from the sidewalk are still there. My uncle was a fireman in PG County and actually ran the fire. He says that hoses were bursting and firetrucks were actually breaking down on the scene. Kinda like someone or something wanted the house to burn..............

If you read part 4 and 5 of the article, it concludes that the house in Mt. Rainier that burned down was not the house the boy lived in. The couple that lived there had no children. The "haunted boy's" house is still standing in Cottage City. Whether or not he was "possessed" is subjective. The author obviously researched the whole story thoroughly rather than relying on previous misinformation. Anyway, I found it interesting.

Just because you read 1 article written by someone that says he has the real deal and everyone elses articles are wrong, HELLO. haha. The steps that are so famous in this case are the ones in Georgetown that the priest died on.

And if you notice the author was more focused on the movie than the facts.

There are actual interviews with priests that were actually there. I will take their word over any authors.

Sigh. Honestly, I'm not interested in arguing. I just thought the article was interesting and presented a lot of information I hadn't heard before, that's all. The steps were from the movie, not from the actual case of the boy. Believe what you want to.

A sort of ghost story I like a lot better than "The Exorcist" is "The Other" by Thomas Tryon. Great book and movie about twin boys. Not to be confused with "The Others," the Nicole Kidman movie which was okay.

where is this? i live right behind the base on dominion and when we went back there the only thing we found were remains of an old house. but that is behind the actual base so where is it? ann, I never got the pleasure of visiting the 7 gates but apparently in the woods next to the NSA complex (where the tank grates are) there is a path that local kids used to walk and most couldn't make it to the end. One boy did make it to the seventh gate and there was a tree covered in lamb-skin n' blood. Shortly there after his friend was hit by a car and killed on rt18, some say it was retaliation by the Devil for trespassing through the 7-gates. My theory is the guy was on a bad trip when he saw this (it was the 80's). (fixed the quote tags)

Question to all. What ever happened to KIO and interesting stories about our sunny isle of kent?
If KIO was like this today, we would not need a "Private Forum".
A few weeks ago I tried to start a topic about the history of Kent Island, I was slammed by a certain individual, stating that I thought Old Stevensville is a dump.
Can't we all become more concerned about our history here, and important topics of politics, meeting for coffee and dinners? Instead of a negative thread?
Just a thought. And FYI, Please forgive me if my sentances are not in grammatical manner. I am by no way "intoxicated" .

If you read part 4 and 5 of the article, it concludes that the house in Mt. Rainier that burned down was not the house the boy lived in. To put a "X2" on what chickennecker11 said: I taught on the western shore for many years. The father of one of my students grew up during the "possession" in Mt. Rainier, (and still lives there today). He went to school with the boy who supposed to be "possessed". The boy just stopped coming to school one day. He said there were very strange things that occurred in that house. Not evil or wicked or demonic, just, strange. Eventually, the family up and left and it was burned down and a playground was put in it's place.

I worked in the rectory of a church in Lanham MD that the family of the boy attended and the Pastor of the church was involved in the excorcism. His name was Fr. Hughs and he was involved early on with the boy before they shipped the kid off to St. Louis to a church hospital. Anyway, Fr. Hughs had passed away before I started working there but when I was working one night I asked one of the priests if all of the stuff in the movie really happenned and he said that Fr. Hughs had his personal journals still in the library but they are locked up. He said he did tell a few people though that the movie The Excorcist which was based on this story was pretty close to acurate as far as the demonic stuff that happenned, levitation, strange voices etc... The only stuff that was dramatized was the location and people involved and it was a boy not a girl.

Ex Father in law was studing to become a Deacon in the 70's and he said he was able to meet several people in the church who confirmed the stories. He said he was only half and half on it thought untill during one of his "training trips, I don't know what to call them" to become a deacon he and a preist went to a fram house in Frederick MD b/c the house was reported to be possesed. He was not thinking anything would happen, but was at the dinner table talking to the family when the light above the table started to swing back n forth. then the silverwear all went to the center of the table. he confided that he was truly scared and wanted to run out of the house. The preist was OK with it like he was unphased by it. I have NEVER know this man to tell a tale and even though he is an EX-father inlaw I hold his word very high.

A few things I ran into and remember from living on the Island during my middle school years, and working there: 1. Anyone remember the "Seven Gates Of Hell"? Supposedly it was near the NSA complex/ Harborview, lots of creepy stories from there. 2. Between Larch Place and the High School, there is a Cemetery (used to have a sign stevensville cemetery). As a kid while skipping school my friends and I would hide in those woods during the day. One day while running around we found a bunch of tombstones marked from the late 1800's up to 1910's. 3. Love Point Hotel. Near langenfelders (sp?) on the shoreline there used to be a huge Hotel that was a major vacation spot for the city folk, even had a beach. Burned to the ground killing 20 or so people. They say if you go there at night you can still hear the kids playing in the sand. 4. Bollingly Mansion (In Queenstown). In the 70's one of the local teens (withholding name out of respect) had just broke up with his girlfriend and walked down to the beach next to the house and cops say he killed himself. Local rumors say he was murdered and haunts the beach because his killer was never brought to justice. 5. Walker Road. At the end of Walker Road there is a greenhouse that legend has it the slave quarters was built. Apparently during/ after the Civil War the master burned the quarters and all inside. The woods where the church is built all the way to the bay is haunted with those who burned alive. 6. To clarify the train station. The station that is in Stevensville was move from it original location (next to the service station and Love Point Park where the walking trail is) in the late 80's. If I remember right they did it to put it next to the Cray house and attract tourist to downtown Stevensville. 7. The Benton Farm. If it's the farm I'm thinking of (back behind Bayside), I was an apprentice Plumber working in the main house during it's renovation in 94-95. The owner who is the son of Mr. Benton (by the way is the one stashed away in the mausoleum), found a hidden room in the basement. He wanted to clean it up and increase the size of his house, so we started digging it out. We started to find chains with hand-cuffs, plates, glasses, some old book binders, and lots of antique hand tools. He did a little research on the family who built the house and had found they were arrested for assisting slaves in running away. Come to find out it was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. Well, he quickly covered it back up and sealed it fearing the Historical Society would stop him from doing anymore work until they investigated it. Oh yeah, that house is haunted beyond the typical Ghost. Lots of stories for everyone......
