Another thread made me think about my favorite happy hour places. Since I was asked where I hang out, here's my list: Big Owls.. love the steamed shrimp and the grilled chesseburgers. Annoying prices on call drinks, but nice atmosphere. Was really nice yesterday afternoon.. Good Guys Centreville - Great pizza and Greek salad. Pricey for cocktails. Schezuan Inn Severna Park - Cheapest place in the area. Cocktails, free happy hour food, and pretty good chinese. Bartender "Soo-mai" is best anywhere! Make a reservation for a barstool. ;D Lisa's Small Plates.. not too often but I like the sesame tuna and the chicken satay on the stick.. but for me, usually too young a crowd. Hillside.. good old eastern shore redneck bar.. great prime rib.. and if you can get anybody to wait on you a fun place. Doc's riverside.. nice. Bo and Diane did a great job turning this place around. I like the seafood platter broiled. Luke's Grille.. pretty good, but for some reason it just isn't memorable.. I forget about it when running down the list in my mind. Good tuna here also. The Jetty. Surprisingly good food for a dock bar. The seafood nachos are awesome! Great place to sit if the wind ain't blowing and they have the garage door shades up.. Too bad they don't have more room to dance when Mary Lou is there... Cafe Mezzanote in Arnold (used to be the Magic Dish). Awesome food at this place. Happy hour is a bargain. Surprisingly friendly crowd for being in a snooty neighborhood! Harborside - West OC.. fun place. Original Orange Crush. They make them 6 or 8 at a time! Very nice food menu and good service if you can find a place to sit. R's Americantina.. I like the place. I like the atmosphere in the bar and the food. When I am in the mood for a little taste of the southwest I go here if I don't have time to make it over to Listas on Mountain Road in Pasadena. No Place... Too upscale for me. I haven't been there since they put my picture on the wall.. (Is it still there?) Crab Deck.. I'm still trying to figure out where to sit.. No atmosphere at the bar and I feel like I should order food at the outside tables.. Not a complete list, but the places I have been to most recently. Remember, this is just one OF's opinion.. Best regards, BC

bluecrabber, that's some list. What does the complete list look like, it must be extensive. I agree with most of your stuff and I am sure that we are crossing paths from time to time. My list for summer time places (a view, outside seating, etc), winter time would be another list. - The Jetty: go most times during the week, I try to stay close to home and you can't beat the $1.25 beers. I love monday and tuesdays, more of the locals time. Saturday or sunday at times before "the bands" start setting up. They do have service issues at occasionally, but it's in my hood so I accept it. - Big Owls: I miss the Shanty, don't really care for Al or his wife's demeanor most times. He has done a good job running it though. Like stopping by when boating. - Luke's: Rainy days, love the ahi tuna and burgers, when in mood for non-dock bar night. - Red eye's: sometimes, never on weekend. My eye balls hurt when I leave there if you know what I mean. - Kentmorr: at times when seeking something different - Crab Deck: aka "the Q-Tip cafe", no - Lola's: never done anything for me When in OC. most definitely Harborside first stop, hit a couple places through town on the way up to Harpoon Hannah's on the canal at the DE/MD line. Spread out over a few hours of course, no DUI here.

We always enjoy Rustico's happy hour, especially the flatbread pizza's for $4-5, and big helping of calamari (excellent) for $4.50. HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS Mon-Sat 3pm-7pm and all day Sunday $5 Select Glasses of Wine $1 Off All Drinks All Bar Menu Appetizers Half Price $2.50 Domestic Beers; $3.50 Premium Beers Alcohol is not necessarily as cheap as some of the dock bar prices, but the food is outstanding and 1/2 price. We also enjoy Big Owl's for the view, and laid back atmosphere. Don't hit the Jetty anymore, as the older I get the more annoyed I get with people bumping into me all the time

If you want wings....Friday's at No Place for their happy hour....Wings are free and they are the best......... Jetty is ok, early in the evening before the fake ID card holders start showing up!! Most of the time you will catch as at the Legion, even when it's not happy hour you can't beat the prices..... I know not everyone can get into the Legion on their own, but if you think you can qualify for membership either thru a spouse, parent, grandparent, let's talk.... Love to get the membership up.... or you can always come with me and DH as our guest!! Many have!! The rest of the places on the Island are ok.... as long as you go with a group of fun people!! Just makes the hour more HappY!

I agree with Shadow about Rustico's! 1/2 price bottle of wine on Monday and Wednesday nights, and 1/2 price apps. We love their meat platter, and their cheese platter with wine. It's a dinner in itself and absolutely wonderful. Tonight we met with another couple , and a member from KIO at Lukes. We had a great time, and have no problem with their prices. 1/2 price deals on their happy hour menu, and drinks as well until 8. BTW, there are at least 8 onion rings, and they are well worth the price as far as I can taste. They were yummy! Our table had steamed shrimp, steak salad, mussels, wings, rings, and crab dip. We had a great time, excellent service, and well priced in addition to great food. I still highly recommend Lukes. Not to mention meeting some friends from KIO! -CG

- Crab Deck: aka "the Q-Tip cafe", no Hmmm... you got me there.. ? I probably do cross paths with several on this forum. Living up here in the hinterlands (Centreville) I don't have much to choose from.. No question I spend more time in restaurants and bars than I should, but it seems like sometimes it is cheaper and easier to do happy hour than buy groceries and cook at home! Last night at the truckstop! Awesome 12 ounce hamburger steak smothered in onions and mushroom gravy with french fries and cole slaw! I was a happy fella with dinner for two at $20! Of course the view is not quite on a par with Big Owl's.. but there was one "driver" on a stool showing a little crack.. Best regards, BC

What the origin of "the Q-Tip cafe"? Please explain. Thanks Umm......let me put this gently since I will be there some day myself so as not to offend. You no when you walk into a place and all you see is bunches of little white haired people bunched together, think bingo hall. Looks like "Q-Tips". Not usually my type of place.

See, now I'm in trouble. I'll start hosing down my armpits with "OFF" everyday from now on. Thread highjack.....there's always good eats at a truck stop. Haven't been to that one in Centreville, usually only when I travel away. Does the truck stop in Centreville have good "meatloaf", not laced with green peppers? Truck stops usually always have the best meatloaf.

bluecrabber, we must really be passing each other. Started at Red Eyes for a couple, stopped by Big Owls, ended up at R's for dinner. We were members of KIYC up until the end of '07. Decided to not renew, needed to spread out, try new places like R's, Lukes and Rustico's. We'll meet some day, it will be fun. I guess not over meatloaf at the truck stop though.

Yellowfin has an all you can eat lobster tail night that I want to try - it's being advertised on 'RNR.
Locally, Wendesday at Big Bat's is cheap food and drinks all night which can't be beat, Rams Head has free food during HH, and the new Irish bar Timmy O"Bryan's is supposed to have a great HH - looking forward to trying them. R's has chaep drinks and $5 apps and continues it on Saturdays & Sundays too.

Atmosphere, food quality, service, price and so on and so on...Get there early, eat slowing and enjoy!!! Been a while since I looked at this thread... but I agree! Yellowfin is first class. Just a little out of the way for my normal travels. My usual western shore stop is either the Mezzanote in Arnold on Ritchie Hiway or the Szechuan Inn on Benfield road. I have never had a bad meal at the Mezz and the crowd at the Szechuan is a hoot. It's like a Cheers Bar. Assigned stools... and every personality and class of citizen you can think of.. too much. Best regards, BC
