Has anyone heard of gangs, reportedly Latino, who, according to an official of one town, have as their rite of passage the requirement to shoot people? Apparently, they drive without lights, and then when they are flashed by another motorist, shoot that driver. Also, they may have what appears to be a stranded woman on the side of the road; when a motorist stops, they hijack the car and leave the motorist stranded, and go on to commit crimes. Supposedly, they are moving into rural areas, and some of their graffiti has boon found under the Narrows bridge. I don't like to think ill of any group, but all groups have a bad element. The source appears to be reliable; I hope this is not yet another danger we need to deal with here.

Actually this urban legend has been around at least since the 1990's, with no real credence to the story, according to Snopes.com (a pretty good place to check out things like this). In one of it's earliest forms it was the Hell's Angels doing the same thing

It's funny how stories get warped to fit into local culture... 95% of stories that are told anymore are urban legends

However there is a "presence" in the north part of the county complete with gang "markings". Immigration and Customs served a couple of warrants about a month or so ago in Templeville and Marydel and again, nothing about it in the papers I guess we can just let our sheriff just keep us in the dark and we will be non the wiser.

wow, i first heard this in 1992 when i was living in pittsburgh. i also heard from a very reliable source that if you turn around 10 times very quickly while saying 'red rum' and then look into a mirror you can see the ghost of 'mary' who was horribly murdered many decades ago . . . oh, and all the computers will fail on january 1, 2000.

shoreman, warrants are served almost daily in marydel by various agencies. As far as the ICE warrants, they serve them often and deport fellons.

I don't know about shooting people that flash their lights...but I can honestly tell you I had a very close call with some black gang members one night during the Christmas holiday. My mother and I were returning from a shopping trip from a local mall and were on the freeway. My mom was driving and we were just talking. The car in front of us was going VERY slow in the fast lane. It appeared to be one driver. I had heard a VERY similar warning about the gangs doing terrible things to people that flashed their lights as part of an initiation. Before I could even get the words out of my mouth, my mom flashed her high beams....three other people appeared in the back seat and slammed on their brakes...my mom swerved to aviod rear ending them and they managed to get behind us...they chased us in the middle lane at very high speeds. I finally told my mother to make an unsignaled exit at the last minute and their car couldn't make the adjustment quick enough and they sped past us. We drove straight to the police station and gave the tag number, personal description and car description to them. They confirmed that people had been harmed as a result of this scheme. He did not say how. But he did tell us we were very lucky and had been very smart.
This is not an urban legend for me. It really happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee. To me. 10 years ago.

Exactly right GBM. Speeder, take care on the roads. Alot of latinos, and blacks will do that in our area on 95. They take it to another level at times though. Usually they'll be driving beaters, and their scheme is to box a lone driver, with a beater in front, and another in the rear. Hence, when the brakes are applied by the front beater, the unaware driver, rearends that one, while the one behind rearends yours. And regardless of who was at fault, they then get your insurance company to pay for their medical treatment(chiro anyone)....

MS-13 has a small cell in the Cordova area, they travel through K.I. to larger meetings in the B-more/ DC area. Remember 301 is a major route for the likes of Drugs and Human Trafficing (their big business). It prob doesn't make the news because QA/Talbot law enforcement doesn't have the resources to address the problem, nor does the Fed's want interferance. You leave the little guys alone and they will lead you to the bigger ones theory.
The flashing headlight originated in New Jersey during a gang war in the late 80's. Not sure if the legend is true or not.

I'm not so sure the local Sheriff doesn't have the resources to address it but from what I've seen so far, I'm confident that he doesn't have the "know how"

I lived 4 years in Augusta, Georgia. Georgia law states your car is an extention of your home. Everybody carried a loaded firearm in the console of their car including my wife. Never heard of a carjacking in all my time there.
The car crashing scheme usually involves tractor-trailers because of the time it takes to stop a large truck, and the amount of insurance they have to carry. They pin a truck in one lane while the crash car hits the brakes in front of the truck. The truck either has to swerve into the car at its side, or rear-end the car in front. Usually the car will have 4 occupants which will all have neck and back injuries. Several lawyers have been caught setting up these schemes. It must be a hefty payout!

I never followed up on them as I know there's NO way that the Gomers in Annapolis would ever pass them. Get caught with a loaded gun in your car here, INSTANT Criminal are you.

Yeah, I know. I'd like to see changes in MD law. DC has a mandatory 5 years for possesion. of a firearm. I had a permit to carry in Ga. Simply apply with a clean record and $45, and 90 days later your go to the courthouse for fingerprinting. I carried a small pocket gun everywhere. Everyone did.

Yeah, DC with some of the toughest handgun laws and some of the worst crime rates.
I think the courts just overturned the total ban on handguns there! Unconstitutional.

i have an in-law in georgia. elderly, blind in one eye, a space cadet in many ways. has carried a gun in his car for a long time, because he doesn't like the other drivers. applied for a permit not too long ago (don't even know if he had a permit before) to carry a concealed weapon, and was given it! when his daughter, who was living with him, came in the house and startled him, he actually pulled the gun at her. he is terrifying everyone who knows him, and it is terrifying to think of all the others like him who may be out there, with no more sense than bag of dirt.

Sorry, shouldn't qualify. The only gun law I would agree with is the one that let's me get a permit to carry, after pass the same qualifications that any cop passes..
Ever notice in a lot of cop shootings how they shoot 10, 20, 30 times, and miss the suspect?
I can do a LOT better than that.

that scares me, for sure--but i hope you didn't mean that if you could maybe hit the broad side of a barn, you should get one, too! LOL!
