All I know is this. I lived really well during Reagan terms, I lost a lot during Clintons time I made it all back and then some during GW's time I've never been so afraid of my own government and of what's to come as I am RIGHT NOW. My situation as well. Reagan years and GW years were very good for me. Lost big time during the Clinton years. WooHoo! Their going to bump me up to the 5th grade.

Looking at that chart going back to the Carter years is the best indication of how meaningless it is to quality of life. The low numbers he had on that chart also coincided with double digit unemployment, 17% mortgage rates, 20% plus interest rates for car loans. A more relevant chart might be the "Misery Index" which is based on unemployment and inflation. Carter soared to record numbers, helping to make him a one-term president. During the Reagan terms it came down to about half of Carter's numbers. The numbers went back up during G.H.W Bush years. It was only his last year in office that he started to get it turned around, but by then it was too late to help him. Clinton managed to get it to continue going down most of his time in office, with it starting to creep back up his last couple years. It continued to climb in the early G W Bush years, but dropped two of the last three years in office. The last year took a huge spike as the housing market collapsed. That collapse was triggered by policy screwups doen by both Democrats and Republicans. Some times were better than other with different presidents, but it's the first time since the Carter years that I am really afraid of losing a job.
