Has anyone else had problems with drivers that do not have EZ pass coming over into the EZ pass lane after paying. I have been over the bridge 4 times in the past week and almost ran into 2 cars and saw others coming into our lane. They need to put the orange cones closer together or something. I was about a foot away from this little Civic when she tried to sneak into my lane real quick so she could avoid traffic.

Yea, somehow they think the grass is greener in the other lane. I don't think cone placement would help much. Most people that do that just plow right through them anyway.

I know the other day the cones had a couple of spaces that people were pulling through. The non EZ people had a little mess just cause everyone was trying to merge into one lane. I just think before there is an accident someone should do something.

This happened to me on Sat as well. I don't see it as EZ-Pass vs. non-EZ-Pass - I see it as there's a lane here, a lane there, stay in your friggin lane and the whole thing will move better/smoother/quicker. I wish I drove a car I didn't care about, then I would just plow right into them. What would their excuse be - I was illegally pulling into this lane when this guy hit me?

Gosh I thought I was the only one with this problem! I agree, move the cones closer together! Of course if you need to tell the Bridge Police this you will have to drive half way across the Island and tell them that while they are in the median by Kent Narrows!

I am sure that they are aware of what is going on as much as it happens. I am going to call and complain before someone gets hurt. I was only going about 15mph when that Civic pulled her front end out into my lane but I do drive a big truck. It would be nice to fix the problem BEFORE something bad happens.

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Guess what. I have an EZ PASS and Ive done this from both sides for different reason that take to much typing....
get over it, IF you were in that situation my money says you would do it to.
THAT'LL be popular....

Well they wouldn't have room to come over if EZ pass folks didn't always want to hug the left side. Drive right alongside of the cones and those EZ lane poachers wouldn't have room to escape into our quicker lane.

Actually BC I wouldn't do that. I have enough sense not to do something that might cause an accident. It isn't about them cheating or getting in front of me, it's about me having my kids in the truck and these people almost causing an accident. I am sure that if I would've hit that Civic you would be the one whining cause you're stuck in traffic ;D

Guess what. I have an EZ PASS and Ive done this from both sides for different reason that take to much typing.... I've done it going the other way. At times when for some odd reason #3 goes to the westbound bridge, or #3 is closed altogether, I'll go in 1 or 2 and then cut back over near the end. I'm not a big fan of driving east on the westbound side because of the greater potential of getting stuck behind some scaredy cat who thinks going 40 instead of 60 will save him from a head-on collision. I've never had to do it the way being complained about, because normally I've recognized the backup well before the tolls and got over there in advance. Kami, there wouldn't be an accident if they didn't see room to jump the cones. Room EVERYONE seems willing to give them.

Rob I know that is why they jump from that lane into our 2 lanes. The authorities just need to fix the cones before something happens. If I am not the one in an accident from these people I still don't wanna be one of the people stuck in traffic cause of it.

The cones are there for a reason - to keep people safe.

BChevy - "not popular" if you are one of those who cuts through the cones to try to advance a few car lengths.
Come on, give us some good reasons (other than the MTA doesn't know how to manage the bridge) for cutting through the cones.
I take it we are talking about lanes divided by cones- obviously, you need to maneuver through the lanes with no dividers to avoid getting hit by those non-drivers who have no idea how to merge.

Here's a thought.....make the 4 left lanes EZ-Pass all the time and put up a solid moveable barrier from the tolls to the center of the EB span that delineate those lane from the others. The farthest 2 left lanes can go on the WB span when its open and the other two lanes will have an express lane on to the EB span and no one will be able to cut across.

THAT would make sense, and be money well spent. We CAN NOT have ANY of THAT!

Call me a cynic, but, the Ezpass folks (us) are locals not going to Ocean City to spend money and are also paying our $1 vice $2.50 that the lane jumpers are paying. I am thinking that maybe the revenue generating folks are getting more slack then we want to believe they are.

skywatcher that sounds good. I don't even need 4 lanes. I am ok with the 2 or 3 on the left end. I don't think the cones are enough. Gotta go over there today. We'll see how many idiots try to jump into my lane

William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay) Bridge (US 50/301), 410-295-8146 Don Watts (supervisor)
I just called this number to complain (finally). The guy that is in charge of the "orange cones" crew didn't answer but I am going to call back to speak directly to him.

Now, I don't care how you look at this, but thats funny. There is a guy in charge of the orange cones. That, in itself, should tell you why the bridge traffic is so screwed up!

I agree. Maybe they should get another person to help him ;D It seems to me like it is too hard for him to set the cones up right.

When you do, ask him why its too much trouble to fix the cones at the very end right up to the EB side to give the left lane more room to get over on the left side sto the right lane folk aren't squished until the left lane folks decide to move over (or not move over and screw EVERYTHING up) I'm refering only to the EB bridge traffic. Does anyone else hate that those cones almost FORCE a merge and most people have to dart left once they end to give the right laners room to get over right before the bridge?

I thought it wasn't about "your lane"? Why wouldn't it be about my lane Of course it's about "my lane" when I am driving in it and someone pop's the front of their car into "my lane". I did do it every day up until a couple of months ago. When someone almost causes an accident that I have to avoid then I have just as much right as you daily bridge drivers do. I think you just like to argue and I am ok with that. I will sleep just fine every night no matter who agrees or disagrees with me
