Only a year before had I returned from Ft. Bragg, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and for preparation of the invasion of Iraq 2003-2004.
Working backwards... I undertook training for Deacons and Elders at Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church, in the spring of 2004.
On Friday Feb 4, 2005 I received my independent ordination as a minister. As you can imagine, all the guys laughed down on the Army docks at Curtis Bay MD, on my full time technician job as a marine engineer.
The next day on Saturday, my official transfer back into my old watercraft unit was complete.
About noon on Sunday Feb 6, 2005 My unit was undergoing our annual water survival training at Ft Meade MD. I started experiencing what I thought was sever heart burn, but to my surprise it was a massive heart attack!
Thank God the Army took good care of me, the paramedics arrived on scene and had hooked me up, as the NSA cop took my information. This was the last thing I remember; the next thing I knew a shadowy presence of a man lying next to me, pressed shoulder to shoulder is all I could see and feel!
I know now this was Jesus Christ, but it would take too long to write about on this blog.
As I was defibrillated a couple of times, it appeared as if a manhole cover was being slid open above me. The light pierced the darkness of that tunnel or void of blackness, and I could see the paramedics faces looking down on me as they worked.
As I was in transport to the hospital my heart continued to fail, at one point I remember only wishing that I could see outside.
At that moment, I remember looking down at my ambulance, the clarity of that moment was tremendous! I could see sharply every detail along the road, my mind was tremendously clear and focused, yet no sound could I hear.
Wearing glasses now, and suffering from ADHD all my life; it was very noticeable to me, that I no longer suffered from the shortfalls of my earthly body!
I could indeed remember ALL the details of my life, my wife and the things I had done and accomplished; yet it seemed trivial in that I had not accomplished more for other people and my eternity! I was not expected to survive that night, my lungs filled up with fluid and I hardly had enough energy to even move.
My wife later told me she hid behind my door on that day never expecting to see me again.
After I awoke, I told my family this story and my mom asked me how I could have seen my ambulance, specifically from the front?
I immediatly rationalized that I had seen this event from the rear door window, in a bug eye mirror...
That was impossible however, because I was facing forward and no windows existed in the vehicle.
About a week later in the hospital, my heart started to fail again.
As they rushed me back down to surgery again, a black female nurse spoke to me in private, as I lay upon the cold steel table.
She said something rather strange to me, she said : Mr. Dell, the Enemy know who you are, but this will not stop what God has planned for you! That amazed me, as she was actually repeating back to me a prayer I had prayed weeks before!
My wife and a good friend of mine thinks this nurse was actually an angel... I don't know but she repeated back to me something no one else had knowledge of.
Don't beleive me...? Well the Army paramedic that helped save my life, lives somewhere in Grasonville. If you know Donny please shoot me an email so I can go thank him!
Today I am an accredited Chaplain, and life member DAV; it is my goal in life now to help others to know the strength and power we can experience in having a relationship with our heavenly Father in Jesus Christ. I apologize if I offend anyone with my testimony, but when I see the Lord next time on the other side; well at least I can say that I made an effort to share Him with others.
If you are interested in reading more on my experience, just Google my name...
