Here's one of those flag waving items that should be a no-brainer I think. Why are 4th of July fireworks not done on the 4th of July? Is there economics driving it, the same company does them all, lack of security or personnel........what drives that decision not to have it on the 4th. I know it has been going on for a while, but it just doesn't seem right. The 4th is the 4th, so it should be done on the 4th.
Fireworks schedule this year for our locale: KI Narrows on July 2nd, Rockhall & St. Michaels July 3rd and Annapolis on the 4th.

perhaps they are scheduled so that there are more folks that are able to attend? Maybe because of work, or not having the holiday off? Just a thought.

It's done that way so folks can go to multiple fireworks events. I like it this way. I can check out KI on Friday, maybe hit one of the other eastern shore events on Saturday, and can still cross the bridge for the big shows if I really want to on the 4th.

Personally it makes me happy to hear the fireworks at the Narrows will be on the 2nd. I love sitting at the Narrows watching them but I figured I would probably miss them this year. I am going to be in Oxford for their display on the 4th. It should be a full weekend of celebrating!

So the Narrows fireworks is on a Friday....................that should help with any beach traffic. Not the highest volume time of day, but you never know.

I'll bet the people who schedule the fireworks displays are the same type who ban civilian fireworks sales/usage.
MD fireworks laws are a good thing ....want to know why?
I was at a party last year where they had a good ton of fresh PA supply. The better ones were slightly smaller scale versions of what you go see the city shoot off for you. They looked even bigger, being launched 30 yards from us. That is what I'm buying for myself this year.
Now, as I sat there, watching this illegal fireworks display, I thought:
"What better way to commemorate our forefathers saying 'F*** the man' than an illegal fireworks display."
If it were legal, it wouldn't be the same. Thank you, MD legislators, for taking on the role of the British.

It does seem strange to wonder what the date will be for the 4th of July fireworks.
We were at Lola's one time and watched the fireworks display happening near Bay City. It wasn't until the next day we found out it was not a licensed display, just the neighborhood getting together and putting on a display. Was a pretty good display.

I grew up in Bel Air (Blair) Harford county, there was a town parade and fireworks display on the 4th every year, and it was good. It didn't matter what day of the week the 4th was on, it all took place on the 4th. Having it on another day for some type of convenience takes away from the meaning of the day.
I'm sure some like the the option of going of a display on multiple days, but it also encourages those across the bridge and elsewhere to come here, it just adds to the mass movement of people on various days.
We don't move our festive events of Christmas, New Years, St. Patrick's or Valentines day around.....why should the 4th of July be different?

There are only so many companies that can put on fireworks displays and needless to say they cant be in more than one place. Also they give priority to larger areas like Annap., Balt...because they usually bring in more money...So when KI come on a says they want a show this size and it is considerably smaller than other offers the company has you dont get to pick July 4...you get whats left over.
There is a solution...raise taxes so we can pay a premium to the fireworks company just to have fireworks on the 4th.

It cost twice as much for fireworks on the 4th as it does for other days.

Anybody going to catch any of the fireworks by boat? I think I'm going to drop in for one of them. Baltimore is crazy on the 4th, but a lot of boats there. Anybody?

I didn't state it in my original post, but we will be doing them by boat. Plan on doing the Narrows on the 2nd and St. Michaels on the 3rd, with a different set of friends for each. Weather will be a factor, but I hope to do both by boat. Not going if I can't go by boat.
