My neighbor told me that there will be a balloon test on Saturday (12/4) from 9 to 11 a.m. for a proposed 199' communication tower, equipment shelter and generator. To be located on a property on Love Point Road - tax map 48, parcel 108. I guess the balloon is to visualize location and height. The public notice said anyone with questions can contact Stephanie Petway 240-401-0907 or email spetway@nbcllc.com. If it is too windy or rain, balloon test will be the following Saturday.
I wonder why they can't use tall structures that are already there - like water towers?

Thats interesting. There are towers at Matapeake that seem to cover the northern half of the island without issues. If anything a smaller tower down Romancoke might be better.

I agree we need one down here in the mid to lower end of the island. There's been rumors for years that there was going to be one installed somewhere around the Elks, but that's never happened.
Many times I have to go to an upstairs front bedroom or out the front door, which faces north to be able to maintain some sort of connection and I'm just in Queen Anne Colony. I can't imagine what it's like for those further south of me.
Maybe the new tower will be higher and have a more powerfull transmitter than what's in place now and cover all of the island and parts of Kent county also.

This is funny to me because if this were a fire siren tower, a flag pole, radio station tower, or a privet ham radio operator tower all hell would break loose. So much B.S. would be tossed around about the "look" of Kent Island. the over development of KI.
BUT
If I can get a better cell signal vs picking up the house phone, well then this MUST be good.
It's like the people who don't want fishing at Terrapin park or the walk way ect B/C they don't fish.
Just sayin.....
FUNNY!!!!!

Left before 9 a.m. and got back after 11 - did anyone see location of the balloon test? Maybe it was too windy today and it is postponed until next Saturday.
Still wondering why this couldn't be put on something like a water tower. Then the income could go to offset sewer and water fees or something like that.
I seem to remember that cell reception on Route 8 was improved a couple years back by something that was done at Matapeake.
Cell service providers (like Verizon Wireless) now have a booster antenna they are selling - has anyone tried this?

A friend bought a Verizon network extender for his cabin in the woods of Wisconsin and raved about how well it works. $250 with no monthly charge. Plugs into a router and you have a mini cell tower.
I read something in the Bay Times official notices that Verizon was trying to put two new towers in. One up by Love Point and the other south on Route 8 near where Kent Point Road goes off.

They did a balloon test behind the Elks, a while ago, but too many people complained about it so I never heard anymore talk about it.

Yep, have one and it works well. You can't have poor cell phone reception when you have a home based business. It extends/amplifies your reception within your house, like 5k square feet or something like that. The unit is connected to your modem and you place it near a window to receive GPS signals. You can set it up to block all other cell phone users other than your numbers.

Hi all, just found this thread... obviously an old one... however I am looking for any info on what ever came of the cell phone tower being installed on Love Point Rd. I was looking at a home for sale on Love Point RD & it looks like a cell phone tower is directly on the property (however I think it is actually the neighbors property) but when i search online for registered cell towers, i cannot find anything on it for the life of me. Any info if anyone has any would be greatly appreciated... Also, wondering how you all feel about living within close proximity to a cell tower & if there was any info provided when they installed it there, other than the balloon test? Thank you in advance! Heather

Back not too long after it went in to operation I researched it and found the company that owns it. It's been awhile, so I don't remember who, but as I recall it wasn't being used for cell phones at that time. Do you know what the street address is? I could check to see if I can find it again. Otherwise I'll have to try to remember to take note of it on the way home this afternoon.

Well, one thing is for certain....if you dont like it there, now as is, before you move here, you certainly wont like it if you buy the property. Dont buy a property if you hate the surrounding areas. Dont buy a property that isnt served by sewer unless you WANT to live with a septic tank, because NO ONE can promise you sewer. Dont live near the KI firehouse siren if it annoys you. Dont live down the end of route 8 unless you want to drive up and down Rt 8 and get stuck in bay bridge accident traffic. Dont buy a property hoping to change the neighbor's property. I am just fed up with folks moving over here and trying to change what they saw nearby when they bought the place. Yes, my neighbor moved in next door and told me to move my vegetable garden so they wouldnt have to see it. HA HA! Sorry, I have no information on the cell tower. But I do want another new neighbor, one that likes vegetable gardens. Current one thinks he is the boss of me.

Thank you Frankf & Lainey for responding! - Frank the address of the tower I'm referencing I'm actually unsure of because I haven't been able to find any info on it, but the property line is directly next to 1301 Love Point Rd; searching online thru tax records with the tax map & parcel number the original poster provided I can see the owners ( 2 sisters) however even searching them there is no info. - Lainey I understand your point completely. I have lived on Kent Island before years ago. My concern was just finding info on the tower in general so I know what it is used for and if there are any dangers as I have young children. Thanks again!

Found it! FWIW, of the frequencies I was able to identify, it appears that this tower carries mostly business/local government(?) communications and not cell phone traffic.

Thanks again Frank for the help!... The little picture map you posted shows the location on W View Lane though... is this just a general area & we are talking about the same tower? My realtor sent me an aerial of all the parcels/ tax map & it looks like the address of the tower/ land is 1321 Love Point...

If they haven't built it yet, why don't they put the tower in Tower Gardens down Route 8. They have a nice spot for it where the old WWII Tower used to be.

Isn't that to just replace antennas on the existing tower?
