A plug for the old Hillside..
Tough times for any new business to make it. And especially tough for the Centreville Saute to rebuild since the old Hillside had just about run everybody off before closing.
But, the young man running the place is trying hard. I have been there a few times and the food is good and the prices are extremely reasonable! Just the other night I stopped and got the Hunter's Special. Roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy plus dinner rolls for $3.99! And, $2 Michelob Ultras in the bottle. What a deal! And it was real roast turkey and a very generous helping.
The downstairs is very comfortable and complete with table cloths! But, the bar upstairs is where the real redneck ambiance shines through..
Give them a try.. and try to be patient.. slow business does not make for overstaffing.
Best regards, BC

I have laughed about the name since I first heard it.. I don't think any restaurant in Centreville could ever live up to the impression a name like "Saute'" presents... I actually went there last night. Ate at the bar. Got the meatloaf, a Mich Ultra, and a glass of red wine. Tab with a big tip was under $20! The meatloaf however was not my cup of tea, but it was a big enough serving my Labrador was in love with me this morning.. Best regards, BC

I like the food at Good Guys.. Usually sit at the bar.. Don't go there too often.. sometimes the service seems a little "off"..
I go to Doc's once in a while too.. same story, food is pretty good but for some reason the ambiance of the bar just doesn't seem right... can't explain it, maybe it's the high ceiling in the bar and the fact it always feels a little cold. ??
I have mentioned this before on the forum... my favorite neighborhood "Cheers-like" bar is the Szechuan Inn in Severna Park by the Safeway. What a hoot. I'm headed there tonight!
Best regards, BC

For me..........Doc's, Good Guys and the Saute are alright for lunch when it's just about getting food when passing through town. To go there for dinner, it's not special enough to make it a destination spot, sorry. If I lived in or around Centreville, I might go more often.

Went for dinner this evening. What a long night. We wanted to stop by for something quick, and head to the outlets. Didn't happen. We ordered a burger, and a French dip. One hour and forty five minutes to get dinner. We watched a table of six get up and leave because of poor service. A table of four came in, sat down, and never got a waitress. They left. There were only four tables to be waited on, and the waitress spent more time in the kitchen than on the floor. I hope they can do a better job in the future, but I don't see me going back.

That is sad. Really sad.
The bartender did tell me last week she gets no salary, tips only. They can't afford to pay a wait staff... not enough business.
Oh well...

No wages? Hopefully, that's not the case. Tipped employees have to make at the minimum a "tipped employee wage" per the FLSA.....that might be more in some states like Maryland. If you don't pay an annual salary, you have to pay an hourly wage, if you don't pay a wage..........it's illegal!
Not inspiring me here to leave Annie's, Adam's or Lukes. You Centreville locals are going to have to do you part to make this place work.

Should there NEED to be an effort made?
I haven't been there, but the way I see it, you are good enough to survive or you aren't.
The stories I've heard, and even the pics on their facebook lead me to believe that my plans shouldn't change.

Hanging out at Annie's Adams, etc. probably would disqualify you for membership in the Saute' pool league anyhow! :-) Did not know about the "tipping" wage... I have heard before that a lot of places only pay the wait staff a mere pittance.. they make their money on tips.. Anyhow, nevermind.. I guess those of us banished to Centreville who can't afford the gas to drive to Glen Burnie East (Kent Island) are destined to live with substandard restaurants..

Best regards, BC Haven't you noticed the illegal aliens in Good Guys? Folks Md caters to illegal aliens with our tax $$.. $2billion tax $$ a year to illegal aliens on welfare and work our jobs. Good Guys and others are hiring illegal aliens. 92% in md are "illegal". Only 1000 last spring became citizens in md out of almost 1 million in our state. Its pitiful because its more productive in md to stay undocumented and collect welfare while working cash jobs. The good part is that Illegal aliens are now suing their employers when they get layed off or can't collect workmens comp. They also suing homeowners. BEWARE and stop supporting business's that hire them!! www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/d-c-court-of-appeals-decision-will-attract-more-illegal-alien-workers

Oh well... it is dumb but not too dumb when you need to support your family. What is ironic is that centreville folks see illegal aliens working your highways, landscaping projects, business's and they still cater to them. Stop supporting business who hire illegal aliens. Check out the md state website. 92% in md illegally because of many of our elected officials who cater to them with our $$ just for their votes.. Illegals are voting in md. Governor omalley allowed almost a million illegals from across the nation to get a md drivers license knowing that they using fake id's to get them. Then they are handed a voters registration form. In july 2009 when the federal real id came into play, he had the option of revoking these licenses and instead he extended them to 2015 enough time for them to cover his election. Md corruption and the stuck on stupid crowd continues to vote the same ole corrupted numbnuts back in office.. And that sounds pretty dumb to me.

There was absolutely no way in the world a place names Centreville Saute was going to survive there. That is the worst name they could have possibly come up with. I knew it from day one it had no chance and it didn't matter how good the food was. "Centreville Crab House" - sure that would work. "Centreville Sports Pub" - yep good chance there. But "Centreville Saute" - no freaking way. Sorry but that was just a bad choice for restaurant name

There is absolutely zero ambience at that location - so i agree the best bet is the sports bar or crab house route - the couple running the package goods store at Hillside make an excellent carry out curry - give them a try if you get a chance!

Speaking of the guys at the carryout next door, scuttlebutt from them is the restaurant has so much "baggage" that nobody wants to touch it..
It is my understanding the people who run the carryout are the same who own the Trailways truck stop on 301. They have researched taking over the restaurant but say there are too many problems with the building and legal issues with the property.
