There was some construction going on inside for awhile. I think they added a bar? Anyone tried them yet?

I have not tried them personally, but I have friends who said it was pretty good.. Who knows? Those same friends sleep with their dog.

Brique's is great - they've played around with their menu over the past few months trying to fit into the shore - they were way expensive at first, trying to be a destination restaurant for the Annapolis foodies - but they soon realized they need the locals as well and added a pub type menu. Their bar is small, but comfortable with a great bartender - food is very, very good - service is excellent. Love the ambiance. Prices have become more reasonable for the locals - please give it a try, the burgers are wonderful!

By the way - I sleep with 4 dogs - don't knock it until you've tried it - it saves alot on heat in the winter...

Dang it, that's too bad. I was hoping they would make it. Let's face it, the market just isn't there for a real upscale high dollar place like that in Centreville. Most of us would rather go to Annapolis for that type of restaurant and stay local for the seafood and crab houses. I hope the new owners of that location, and hillside/c'ville sautee, figure that out next time

Nothing seems to work in downtown Centreville..

They had changed the menu to be more casual - they should have done it sooner - there are several successful downtown Centreville businesses - Sugar Magnolia Cafe, Joe Breeze Coffee, Serendipity and more. Downtown businesses everywhere are suffering.

That pizza shop has been there for all 10 years I have lived here. It is possible to be successful in downtown C'ville. But this area is primarily families, not yuppie couples with no kids like you find in DC and Annapolis. They need to cater to the family crowd.

Julia's was there for quite a while and made the fine dining/casual atmosphere work for several years. We're a couple with no children (not yuppie), who enjoy the fine dining/casual atmosphere but never really found that at Brique. Went there several times, each time service or food was off. Last time we were there I commented on an issue with my meal, hostess came over and said "I hear we did not like our dinner"? Like she was speaking to a 5 year old. IMO, the young men who owned it never quite created an identity for the restaurant. So, back to Easton to Bartlett Pear Inn or Masons, or to Annapolis for that experience.

Sorry Eileen, wasn't trying to suggest that all couples w/o children are yuppies. Just meant that the upscale restaurants of Annapolis and DC tend to appeal towards couples with higher incomes who either don't have children or are empty nesters. There has been a big influx of these types of couples to DC and downtown Annapolis primarily to be closer to their jobs and because they don't need to be concerned with the school system since they don't have kids in school (this is the DC gentrefication, dual income / no kids). QAC is vastly populated by families with children so this type of restaurant may be less appealing here vs a family-friendly place like Fisherman's, or Doc's, or Good Guys. I think an upscale place can succeed in C'ville but it has to be almost perfect. Julia's was pretty close, it was a real shame when they left.

No problem shoreterp, (we're too old to be considered yuppies)! Yes, Julia's got it right and I'm sorry they're gone also.

What puzzled me about Julia's was why people wanted to sit in a store front window elevated from the sidewalk and eat. Looked like they were on display as store mannequins.. That stopped me from going in.
I did hear the major reason the restaurant was closed was rent on the building was killing any profit..

Not sure about the rent/profit issue, but I enjoyed Julia's and enjoyed looking out on the lovely, small town of Centreville. Brought out of town friends to Julia's over the years and they were completely charmed by the view out of the window. Dined there nearly every year for the Christmas parade and it felt like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Yes, David is the chef at Bridges, don't know if he has any ownership though.

I love to sit in the window and look out at the town - I liked julia's, but a little too expensive to go as often as I'd have wanted. Part of the problem with C-ville - buildings are owned by just a few people and they set the rents way too high for this area. The Emporium has been here for years - but I never, never see anyone going in or out. Bought a pizza from there one time, brought it home - so horrendous that I swear, even my dogs wouldn't eat it - and they LOVE crust - haven't been back since. You would think with all the empty buildings down there they'd lower the rent.

I like their pizza and it's a nice break from the usual Dominos, Papa John's, Pizza Hut stuff that we are forced to eat around here. I still think Squisito/Carmine's is the best pizza around.
