I agree, mj. The military was actually ordered to restrain protesters in the beginning and flat-out refused.

Use of military force should be used to it's fullest extent to quash any rebellion.
Seriously though, how the heck did this topic end up on this forum and what the heck does it have to do with Kent Island? Really?

Seriously though, how the heck did this topic end up on this forum and what the heck does it have to do with Kent Island? Really? A couple of reasons..........The Politico section, is for local or national politics. Did you read the first post? Are you a taxpayer, you have skin in the game. For some, it's a big event for those that embrace the possible birth of a democracy. For others, it's fear of the prospect of another radical Islamic country. Either way it's a big deal, the fire has been started in the middle east and looks like it is going to spread. Whichever way it goes after the dust settles, the US is inextricably intertwined with the middle east because of two things, that being Oil and Israel, throw in the mix a possible radical Islamic country or one not friendly toward Israel and the US..........equals geopolitics. It's newsworthy and why it's being talked about.

Ok, I see the direct correlation now between what is going on in Egypt compared to here on Kent Island. I am on my way right now to go board up my shop and join the protestors at the local market place and throw fruit and vegetables at the police in riot gear as they advance on us with tear gas...
Seriously, there are a bunch of threads on MSNBC and CNN.com to rant about this, just don't think it belongs here imo

Rants on MSNBC, I don't know if there is, I don't watch it. CNN I do watch, but I don't see doom and gloom ranting (like the attached) on there, maybe it is at times I don't watch. As for not affecting us (KI), not what FOX segments report. I watch O'Reilly, I actually saw that one.

The Voice of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood Qaradawi advocates establishing a "United Muslim Nations" as a contemporary form of the caliphate and the only alternative to the hegemony of the West. He hates Israel and would love to take up arms himself. In one of his sermons, he asked God "to kill the Jewish Zionists, every last one of them." In January 2009, he said: "Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by [Adolf] Hitler." www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,745526,00.html

Obama OKs Muslim Brotherhood The Obama administration appears to have opened the door to a Muslim Brotherhood presence in a new Egyptian government. Assuming the administration carries through with this new stance, it represents a momentous shift in American foreign policy, in Obama’s domestic political profile, and, I fear, in the shape of the Middle East. www.nationalreview.com/corner/258551/obama-oks-muslim-brotherhood-stanley-kurtz

Yusuf al-Qaradawi – a ‘man for all seasons’ “Oh Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish Zionist band of people. Oh Allah, do not spare a single one of them,” he said during the Gaza War in January 2009, in remarks translated by the press monitoring organization MEMRI. “Oh Allah, count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one.” Later that month, he said on his Al-Jazeera program, “Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the Jews people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them – even though they exaggerated this issue – he managed to put them in their place. This was divine punishment for them. “Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.” www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=208978

Egypt orders ex-energy minister to stand trial for natural gas deal with Israel Egypt on Saturday ordered former energy minister Sameh Fahmy and six other officials to stand trial on charges related to a natural gas deal with Israel, the public prosecutor said. The decision is part of a crackdown on graft during the 30-year rule of deposed President Hosni Mubarak by the government appointed by the military generals who now rule Egypt. www.newspapers.com/search.php?title=&country=Israel&city=&frequency=&sort=title&per_page=20

Saw this one coming! U.S. recognizes Muslim Brotherhood The U.S. has decided to formally resume contact with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood group - which does not recognize Israel – in a move that could further alienate some Jewish voters already skeptical of President Barack Obama, it was reported. One senior U.S. official said the Brotherhood’s rise in political prominence after the forced departure of former President Hosni Mubarak earlier this year makes the American contact necessary. Israel facing 'diplomatic tsunami' with Arab neighbors The attack on the Israeli embassy in Cairo has brought into sharp relief Israel's increasing isolation in a still region grappling with the changes of the Arab Spring. Israel was forced to evacuate its ambassador and most of its diplomatic staff from Cairo this weekend after hundreds of Egyptian protesters tore down a security wall protecting the Nile-side embassy, ransacked its files and burned an Israeli flag. It came less than a week after Turkey, Israel's other major ally in the Muslim world, announced it was expelling the Israeli ambassador and downgrading its relationship to the lowest possible level after a deadly skirmish involving a Turkish aid vessel that was attempting to deliver supplies in defiance of Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. Islamists Say They Have Mandate in Egypt Voting CAIRO — Islamists claimed a decisive victory on Wednesday as early election results put them on track to win a dominant majority in Egypt’s first Parliament since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, the most significant step yet in the religious movement’s rise since the start of the Arab Spring The party formed by the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s mainstream Islamist group, appeared to have taken about 40 percent of the vote, as expected. But a big surprise was the strong showing of ultraconservative Islamists, called Salafis, many of whom see most popular entertainment as sinful and reject women’s participation in voting or public life. Analysts in the state-run news media said early returns indicated that Salafi groups could take as much as a quarter of the vote, giving the two groups of Islamists combined control of nearly 65 percent of the parliamentary seats. www.nytimes.com/2011/12/01/world/middleeast/voting-in-egypt-shows-mandate-for-islamists.html?_r=4&pagewanted=all

Muslim Brotherhood aims for Egyptian presidency Thanks Barry Obama. The Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian Islamist group that controls parliament, has announced it would field a presidential candidate in a move that is likely to escalate its confrontation with the country’s military rulers. The group said on Saturday evening it has chosen Khairat al-Shater, its top strategist and deputy leader, as its candidate in the May 23 presidential election. The Brotherhood had pledged last year that it would not contest the presidential election in an apparent bid to reassure the army and western countries that there would be no Islamist power grab. It now says it has been forced to present a candidate by the intransigence of the ruling military council which has refused to sack the interim government and appoint a new one led by the main forces in the elected parliament. www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/459c7550-7b77-11e1-af45-00144feab49a.html#axzz1qv4vpxCPStop it matt!

Cairo protesters scale U.S. Embassy wall, remove flag Didn't see this coming? ?? Egyptian demonstrators climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo today and pulled down the American flag to protest a film they say is insulting to the prophet Mohammad. Update at 2:07 p.m. ET: CNN reports that U.S. security guards fired a volley of warning shots as the crowd gathered outside the embassy walls. CNN adds that the embassy had been expecting a demonstration and cleared all diplomatic personnel earlier from the facility. Original post: The Associated Press reports that embassy officials say there was no staff inside at the time. Reuters reports that protesters tried to raise a black flag carrying the slogan: "There is no god but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger." content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2012/09/11/cairo-us-embassy-protesters-prophet-mohammad/70000126/1#.UE-1U7xTLTR
