This email was sent out today, please just write Vote No in the appropriate box. Thank you ! Hello All, A volunteer of ARF just sent this email to me. Please read below. Thanks, Susan I just found out about this bill that one of our beloved Maryland legislators is sponsoring. It is due to go to hearing tomorrow so action is needed TODAY!!! If passed the bill will allow your dog to be taken from you and destroyed without notice and without a hearing if your dog were to kill a domestic animal. What that means is if you are out walking your dog and an aggressive dog attacked you or your dog, if your dog fought back or defended you and the other dog died as a result of his injuries, your dog would be taken from you and destroyed. If your dog chased your neighbor’s cat who strayed into your yard and inadvertently caused a fatal injury, your dog would be taken and destroyed. No notice, no hearing, no questions asked. Dangerous dog laws are important but they should not be breed specific and they should not take away your constitutional right to due process. Dogs are considered property in the state of Maryland and the constitution states that property cannot be taken from you without notification and without a hearing. Please oppose the law as it is now written and demand that a proper, fair law be introduced. Time is short so act now, it is very easy and takes seconds to do. Just click on the link below provided by Best Friends. Click the "Take action" icon. It will ask you for your zip code and will automatically bring up a pre made email addressed to the proper reps from your district. You can click on the text you want to go into the email or write your own. You add your contact info (required for all emails sent to reps) and hit send and you are done, your voice has been heard. Please speak up for our dogs so innocent lives are not lost and our rights as Americans are not taken from us. ~ Ginny Dugger content.bestfriends.org/htmleditor/vo.aspx?FileID=3B0F02E5-4C98-44F3-891B-0C8036FA3670&m=fb6b800cd886a94d9b3923cf73b358fd&MailID=15347783&text=true

Done. I own one of these "dangerous" animals that I adopted from our own Animal Control. They told me up front that this dog has major animal-agression issues and has attacked other dogs in the kennel. She is a Pit Bull that was in the kennel for over a year before we found her. We fight breed discrimination daily, as well as owner discrimination for having a "dangerous" dog. When someone asks me "Does your dog bite?", I just say "Yes, she's a dog." I am also asked "Why would you get a dog like that?" Because she needed a home. Period. We installed a $2500.00 fence and have invested in training to keep her and other animals safe. With all of this said, I cannot support any bill that takes everything we have accomplished with this animal and throws it away without knowing all of the facts, particularly that this dog was adopted from our own animal control center. Eventually I can see BSL (Breed-Specific Legislation) coming down the pike. It already exists in PG county, has for the last 20 years +/-. Wanna see someone go off like Pete on a doughnut, pass this bill!

Done, and passed on to my sons. One's got a Rottweiler that allowed the cat to clobber him regularly, and the other has a pit bull that plays well with my dogs on the rare occasions they get together.

Yep... another "aggressive breed" owner here (Pit/Boxer). It truly is amazing the ignorance people have when it comes to this type of issue. It's gotten to the point where if someone asks what my puppy is I just say boxer mix... because as soon as you say pit they think the dog will jump up and grab their throat.
It amazed me last Halloween when I was supposed to go camping with my family and was promptly turned around at the gate of Holiday Park because the 12 week old puppy I had was a boxer mix... seriously?

I had a German Shepherd growing up as a kid who saved my sister from another dog and helped me get around the house (I had serious problems walking as a kid), opened doors for me, etc. Clearly a very vicious dog. Frankly, and I believe this about cats, too: if you treat an animal like crap, it'll become aggressive. Period. (There are exceptions, of course, but I think 99 out of 100 cases of "My dog/cat is so aggressive!!" stem from the owner not knowing what he or she is doing or the animal being mistreated by another family member, like a little kid.)

Thank you everyone who shared this information and voted ! Bob66, kudo's to you for rescuing your dog and saving her life. And to everyone else, as Aquaholic stated, we can not make a judgement on breed, as profiling people depending on their race. Let's just hope this bill was rejected today. Animal Resource Foundation is also on facebook, if you would like to learn more information about rescuing pets. Have a wonderful evening, and thank you again !

House Bill 169 is dead for this year.
I want to thank you for contacting me in reference to House Bill 169 that will require the owner of a dangerous dog to obtain a dangerous dog registration certificate. I appreciate hearing from citizens during the legislative session regarding issues that the General Assembly is considering. Your input is extremely helpful as I make decisions.
As you know, I am a member of the Economic Matters Committee and I only get a chance to vote on the bills that are heard in my committee and bills that are passed out of the other committees to the House Floor. HB 169 was assigned to the Judiciary Committee. The public hearing was held on February 10th. I spoke with colleagues in the Judiciary Committee and expressed my opposition to this legislation. Fortunately, the Judiciary Committee voted the bill unfavorable on February 18th so no further action will take place.
Please continue to share your views because it is important to me to include concerned citizens like you in the legislative process. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me.
Sincerely,
Stephen S. Hershey, Jr.
