Been thinking about the folks down south since yesterday; unbelievable the number of people who have been killed and injured. I'll keep your friends and family in my prayers, SG, that they will remain safe, and that this weather soon calms down so everyone will be safe. I know a "La Nina" year is supposed to be pretty wet and bad, but this is just downright awful.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you all and your prayers. I want to share something with the group When I was 18 years old I had an apartment in a little place called Flat Rock, AL. For a "first place" it was awesome....completely empty...but awesome. I didn't have a stick of furniture to my name, not one real dish and only one pot that I could claim (we always joked that it was my "pot to *whizz* in* lol) My best friend, who still lives in Ider, AL, put a call out to the good people of Sand Mountain, AL and ...Trenton, GA. Within three days....I had food, furniture, dishes, pictures for my walls and even a television - all from people I didn't even know that just wanted to help someone in need out. I offered to pay them back and they told me their only required payment would be for me to help someone in need.... Turns out...today those same people (you can Google it if you feel like it) are dealing with absolute devastation. I am getting together everything I can and I am sending to my mom who lives just outside of Trenton, GA to give to take to the local disaster centers and give to anyone that might need it. I went by Twice Is Nice today to pick up some boy's things for my nephews to send to them or any of their friends if they were without...and happened to mention that my friends and family had been affected by yesterday's disaster to one of the ladies that works there. What happened next still has me in absolute tears. She has most amazingly, generously and lovingly offered to donate items for me to send down to them! Household items, clothing items...any number of assorted (and desperately needed) goods....I have once again been humbled and honored by the heart of a beautifully kind person. If any of you have things you have come across in your spring cleaning that you don't want or need....I am taking a load to the post office next Friday. I appreciate your prayers and thoughts and kind words more than I can ever express. Me? I'm repaying a bill that has come due.

SG, I have a bag of clothes in my car that I've been meaning to drop off at Living Water. If you'd be willing to pick them up (PM me for my address), you can include them in your load.

If you need someone to take the items to columbia I would be happy to help. I will be on the Island this weekend and travel back to PG county on Monday. Ironically my cousin usually asks me to take her kids to school on Mondays... their school happens to be Hammond High which is in Columbia. I have a small Nissan Sentra so Im not sure how much I can possibly take, but maybe I can get someone to lend me their truck. Just let me know if you need help.

Oh of course, anything to help someone in need. I just wish I had some stuff to offer. Right before this happened we started remodling of our house, we went through and donated everything... so I dont have anything to give you I could go to the store and pick up things that I usually send to the military in Iraq. Soap, tooth brushes, toilet paper, wash clothes, hand sanitizer, deodorant, ect. I was able to make a cash donation... I know that wont be nearly enough though.

Kim You are such a sweetheart Please don't feel badly...really...that wasn't what I had hoped to do at all! Your thoughts and prayers and words of support mean so very much...and those things can't be bought at a store! I appreciate you offering to go to Columbia more than you know! I have passed on words of encouragement to people down there that need those very badly from everyone up here that I have encountered that has wished them well..they are so amazed that we even think about them...it's been truly, deeply humbling. They are honestly strengthened just by our words. I know I am thankful for all of you

God Bless you SG! You, your family and friends have been in my prayers from the moment this nightmare happened. I held off posting until I could do a little homework for you...I'm sorry to say I had no luck. Just a few years ago, there was a man in Easton who owned a Trucking Company and was known for filling up a semi (or two) and driving supplies anywhere there was a need. Everything in those trucks was donated and being a part of that could even make the Grinch's heart swell... I knew this wonderful man had passed away and hoped his sons had continued on with the tradition, but that is not the case... Just when you think you are stretched too thin, you realize you have all that "stuff" in your closet, attic, garage or spare room and you find someone who really needs EVERYTHING just to get by. I am supporting two different groups of WMs in Iraq and Afghanistan and that takes almost everything I have just now. However, I will continue to keep my eyes and ears open to anyone who is heading that way and can deliver anything we can gather for those in need. As someone who lived in New Orleans before Katrina, I completely understand the need to play it forward...a debt repaid is a debt repaid, and if you keep looking, you/we might just find a truck! I'll keep looking if you will!

((Water Lady)) You gave me tears!!! I am looking and will keep on looking and appreciate your looking!! I had an idea yesterday that I am going to check on today. There is rather large trucking company with it's major home hub near Chattanooga, TN - Covenant Transport - I am going to call them today and see if it is even minutely possible to meet up with one of their trucks returning to Chattanooga and have them take a load or two or three back with them. I can get my friends/family to go to their hub and pick the stuff up and take it where it needs to go right away and since they go up and down 95/50/301 all the time (I just saw one of their trucks recently) and have to travel back that way anyway...well...say a prayer that my request to them is met favorably and I might be able to get the supplies and clothing and stuff to them the same day!!! How amazing would THAT be?? You are doing a wonderful thing helping those folks over there WL....that's huge...I will keep you in my prayers and you know if I can help out with anything I will!

Whew! I wanted to update those of you that have followed this thread. Yesterday, with the help of Jack at The UPS Store in Chester (he is AWESOME by the way) I was able to get most of the items shipped out and on their way to the disaster relief areas. I will ship out the last two boxes this coming week and made sure that all the most needed (and that was a hard decision since they really need EVERYTHING) stuff went out first. Due to.....recent budgeting cutbacks....I had to wait to ship 2 boxes until Wednesday - but they are boxed and ready to go ASAP. They are now in need of tarps, plastic sheeting, etc. But were so excited with the news of the incoming donations.....I want to thank everyone - the people down there have been absolutely amazed and so grateful for your thoughts and prayers and donations... I told them you guys (and girls) were the best (nap, I sent you a PM)

Hey SG! You know, I was just thinking about another possible option. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I would guess that some of our local power companies have sent or will be sending crews down to the area to help restore power. I wish I had a contact somewhere and will have to start asking around about it... I remember when we had that huge ice storm 15 or so years back and there were trucks and crews from ALL OVER THE PLACE! You are doing a great thing! Keep the faith and we will keep praying and helping out however we can.
