www.examiner.com/dogs-in-national/when-poor-decisions-can-mean-deathPlease SIGN THE PETITION to keep Alex alive. Only days after arriving in Maryland, suffering from a painful, chronic untreated ear infection, and severely underweight, he was neutered against the advice of Veterinarians. Then instead of keeping him home and making sure he remained quiet and given time to heal, he was taken to an off leash dog park the very next day by his foster with Mid Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue. That day he was not aggressive with any other dogs at the park but the next day, after all of the stress that he had been through, he got into a fight with the foster's dog and when the foster stepped stepped in between the fight she was bitten. Now Anne Arundel County Animal Control has labeled Alex dangerous and will put him to sleep unless the rescue, MAGSR, votes to appeal. They have until August 10th!!

Just went and signed it...shared it on my face book page...The Magsr people are saying it wasn't a dog fight...they are saying the dog attacked the foster. I don't believe it. There had to be provocation of some sort to make the dog lose it...other dogs were in the house..she probably doesn't want to get her dogs in trouble. This dog should have NEVER been around other dogs...or in the situations she put him in. I have a GSD he is 8 years old...what this so called experienced foster did was ridiculous. I have issues with that rescue...they would NOT adopt to us...as we had a 3 year old at the time and our fence was only 4 ft tall. We are an excellent home...their loss...our Axel's gain. The Foster was wrong...and the dog is now going to pay for it...

My thoughts exactly Barb! Their story has already changed several times. First it was a dog fight, and now it was just Alex that turned and bit her after she popped his pinch collar. Experts have said that it looks like a bite from more than 1 dog, Alex's teeth are dull and couldn't have cause the type of damage done to her arm. I believe it was her dog that bit her and she is protecting him. Even if the latter is true, Alex has severe ear infection, is 30 pounds underweight, and just underwent a surgery that other Veterinarians said he should not have had. AND instead of letting him rest and recover in a crate, he was exposed to other dogs at a dog park by the foster's husband right after his surgery, where other MAGSR volunteer's dog's mounted him and rolled him over. Alex did not fight back then, he ran to the gate to leave.
3 members of the board of directors want to appeal and have Alex sent to a sanctuary, as do many volunteers from MAGSR, however the president and 3 other board of directors do not want to appeal.
The rescue in California, the 3 board of directors and volunteers with MAGSR, and many others are pleading that everyone sign the petition and write emails to:
jleopold@aacounty.org - John Leopold County Executive of Anne Arundel County gshanahan@aacounty.org, Lt Glenn Shanahan head of Animal Coutrol and BOD@MAGSR.ORG, Board of Directors at Mid Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue.

The latest... The rescue has decide to appeal (finally) but Anne Arundel County said that the last day to appeal was actually yesterday, 30 days from the date on incident. Well, somebody can't count because it turns out 30 days is tomorrow at 4pm. Unfortunately, by the time this was figured out Animal Control closed for the day and nobody was able to speak to them. So now we are afraid that Alex may be put to sleep tomorrow morning, first thing, before they even open. The rescue that pulled him from the high-kill shelter in California is supposed to take him back from MAGSR if they are successful at getting him from AACAC. And then he is to be placed with another rescue where he'll be better suited. But like I said this is only if they are able to get in contact with Anne Arundel County Animal control before they kill him.

That person had the day off and couldn't be bothered to tell me if he was still alive. Someone better be there early...I think people got a hold of their fax number and blew up their answering machine....so maybe they will wait...and not euthanize him.

Good news! I haven't been able to keep up with ALL of the comments on the Save Alex group but I do know that he is still alive, and safe....for now. Let's hope the people in charge of all sides can work things out. )
