One of the problems with our justice system - too much time between the arrest and the trial. Things have been in limbo for nearly a year now, it's past time for closure.

Chances are he ran his mouth as he was wont to do and said "I have nothing to hide" or in his "evidence-gathering" attempt to show how innocent and persecuted he was, he ended up having to share his "evidence", i.e. his computer, with prosecutors. Not being one to automatically assume that all law enforcement officials have the citizens worst interest at heart, I can't buy into a conspiracy against Pete. I can buy in to the fact that Pete killed his neighbor, and last I checked that was against the law. Having experienced Pete the same way everyone else has on this forum, no one could say that Pete telling law enforcement that they could search his computer is out of the realm of possibility here. The man IS that arrogant, that cock-sure and frankly sometimes that stupid.

With Pete's confrontational nature, which anyone around here (meaning this site) knew about, of course they would search his computer. Who wants to take the bet he didn't keep some timeline of events with the neighbor at some point? And even if he didn't, you can still be sure that in a homicide investigation the computer would be searched. Nothing at all "scary" about that. As it should be.

Pete was all the things you said, but he also had strong libertarian tendencies. The video of him in the bank parking lot with the cop demonstrates this, as do many of his posts here. It was the one thing he and I agreed on.

I can partially buy into the conspiracy theory. Pete was not well liked in the law enforcement community. They charged him with every possible crime they could. They want to make sure he stays in jail. Child pornography could be a picture of his grandchild in the bathtub. Why was it not filed until 3/26/12? I still believe the outcome will not be what everyone expects. Time will tell.

I believe they charged him with every possible crime they could as insurance, which was a good call. If they can't get him on 1st degree murder, which they won't, they can try second degree or manslaughter, of which they have a much better chance of securing a conviction. If they only charged him with 1st degree murder and it was proven that it did not qualify for that level of offense, they can't turn around and try him again for manslaughter, hoping that would work. That's double jeopardy. I agree that the child porn charges are possibly an example of piling on, as a pic of your grandkids could be twisted by someone vindictive enough. 14 charges = 14 separate incidents, which could be 14 total pics. I also agree that the outcome will not be what everyone expect, which is an unfortunate reality with today's interpretations of what should be cut and dry laws. Just like the Constitution, the Bible or any other set of rules and laws, they can and will be twisted to suit the current needs of those doing the twisting. |

(b) Penalty. -- A person who violates this section is guilty of a felony and on conviction is subject to: (1) for a first violation, imprisonment not exceeding 10 years or a fine not exceeding $ 25,000 or both; and (2) for each subsequent violation, imprisonment not exceeding 20 years or a fine not exceeding $ 50,000 or both. |

Look at the OJ trial for example. They were so sure they had him, they didn't prepare properly and lost. You know he did it, but law enforcement didn't take the precautions necessary to put him away. The next opportunity they had to crucify hime, they took full advantage, no mistakes!
