Either a small tornado or a micro burst of wind did some damage last night on White Marsh Rd. near the Rest Area on 301.
A couple houses had damage, some broken trees, and a couple metal buildings and carport were seriously damaged or destroyed.
Mother Nature was having a bad night..

it was a tornado. Have a friend that lives up there and said the police were following it and it ripped apart a pole building on White Marsh Rd. in the middle of a field and dropped most of it on the road just down the road from their house....

It pisses me off that you can't call a tornado a tornado until some 'expert' tells you that it's a tornado.

Blame the people who see a sliver of cloud hanging down and call it a funnel.

Watched one touch down right in front of my truck Saturday night at around 11:15 on Rt. 8. Been through a ton of them and it wasn't any monster by any stretch of the imagination - F0/F1 (more likely a "0") - but sure will scare the **** when you see it coming at you. Had "twist" damage at my house - several trees/limbs with "corkscrew" damage forcibly removed from their original locations. Heavy patio furniture thrown from one point to another and light structural damage. Appeared to have bounced into Bay City - and right over to the Rt. 8 location where I saw it.
I certainly do not need an "expert" to tell me what one looks like. Or sounds like. Or feels like.

There hasn't been much discussion about Friday nights storms that came through, which is surprising considering the extended power outages and some significant damage, though isolated, that some areas experienced. This pic and explanation by some professionals makes me think that a micro burst or small tornado did briefly touch down. This pic is of my day sailer that I keep on a lift, as you can see from the pic, something happened. The insurance appraiser and the marine construction guy (fix lift) that come out on separate days, both made the reference to that it wasn't a lift failure and were somewhat surprised as to what exactly happened. If you look at the pic close, you will see that the two stabilizer bunks that are normally on each side of the hull are both now on one side. The consensus appears to be that the boat lifted up, the keel came of the center support, it moved toward the dock, the line I keep on it prevented it from going only so far, then the boat came back down with the keel going one way, the upper hull going the other way, being high enough to explain why the two hull supports are on one side now. This sailboat has a large profile, but isn't as heavy as you might think, it has only a cockpit, no cabin. It still does have some weight to it at 3800 lbs. I couldn't understand why it fell off until these guys starting saying what they did. Possible tornado? Makes sense to me, if the check gets to me faster because of that, I'm a believer...and yeah, that boat is still sitting like that. The marine guy is considering that a crane might be needed to lift it off. Attachments:

Holy Crap MJ That's amazing! Showed your post and pic to my husband...what does the boat draw? Where did this happen and was there any other damage around the area? I've just never seen anything like that before! Mother nature is amazing at times...

mj ~ I am quite surprised myself that there is not much talk about it. Usually KIO is the place to go and is rocking with info. I havent heard anything about tornados on the island until speedergurl posted. That being said ~ from what I HEARD on Friday night, I would have bet plenty there was a tornado somewhere!
My father (in NY) mentioned that on his news it was all about the "Dericho Phenomenon" and it is suppose to be similar to a tornado just not twisting winds. All I know is I would prefer not to hear THAT noise again!! (Unless of course it's the blue angels flying over my house) I hope there is not too much damage to your boat ~ sure looks like it was airbourne for a bit

I've just never seen anything like that before! Mother nature is amazing at times... It happened in Queenstown. The boat draws 4-1/2 ft, 26ft loa. Another pic from stern showing all the supports are on one side now. High tide tomorrow morning, the guys are going to try to float it off after cutting the mangled supports clear. Hopefully it can be done without causing more damage to the hull. Attachments:

...other damage? This isn't usually a good thing either most times. Would have been a good time to put in a sky light if the hole wasn't so high up. Attachments:

I don't believe there were any tornados associated with this storm but they said the wind was gusting to the upper 70's which would give it the power of and EF 1 tornado. And unlike tornados these winds went on for 10 minutes or more where as the tornado winds only last for a minute or two

I was refering to the Dericho storm that came through this past Friday night. Your graphic is for the June storm that definitely contained tornados.

Tide was high enough yesterday morning that we were able to float it of the mangled lift after using grinders, metal saws and a couple of cum-a-longs...it's free to sail another day. Batten down the hatches.....severe thunderstorms forecast for Sunday.
