What does everybody think about the new safeway manager. Also the new assistant manager? I hear she is on a fireing frenzy!
*this is my own opinion* She needs to be fired she is not a great manager.

do you work at SW? were you fired at SW? Why are people being fired? what makes them a bad manager? are some people (how many?) being fired for unjustified reasons, if so what are they?

I used to work at sw I quit before they fired me. The accused me of stealing a 1.78 soda. People who work there are miserable always complaining. But to answer your question the manager has nine lawesuits against her for reasons I will not disclose.

Not willing to disclose, but willing to start an inflammatory thread about?
Which is it?

She is a new manager and I think you need to cut her a little slack. She's got to learn what she can and cannot do. I've heard she is very by the book, but not necessarily in a bad way. She is getting rid of a lot of the dead weight in the store. That's what a manager should do. She's doing what Bruce should have done a long time ago.
As far as stealing a $1.78 soda, security handles that, not the new manager. It's Safeway's policy and it's not flexible. She doesn't have a choice.
I will continue to shop a the Safeway simply because I prefer it to the other stores on the island, not to mention the discount on gas! Hopefully, she will learn when to discount for a good cause, and sometimes goodwill is better than bottom line.

In my own personal experience, most of the employees at virtually any business need firing these days.. It ain't fun being a manager of anything..

What is attractive about Safeway? Their prices are much higher than Food Lion overall, their meats are inferior to other stores and the product selection is limited and boring! Nothing special or different. Try going to Harris Teeter, Whole Foods or Wegmans.

Nothing special or different. Try going to Harris Teeter, Whole Foods or Wegmans. Well, there isn't a Harris Teeter within 50 miles of here and Wegmans is far as well. Whole Foods is way overpriced and is across the bridge in Annapolis. If you don't want to drive a minimum of a half hour (depending on traffic), the only choices are Acme, Food Lion, and Safeway. Acme is dirty and expensive with a limited selection, Food Lion is OK, but still limited, and Safeway is the largest with the best selection. Their produce is often old, but everything else seems OK. I would prefer a Giant, but this is what we have.

The Giant in Easton is nice. And the Acme in Centreville is reasonable.. but you do have to take advantage of the Acme shopper card sales. Good news is they have gas!! Discount with your card! Trouble I have with Food Lion (Centreville) is limited selection.. particularly on meats. But, usually better prices. Food shopping is tough these days. I feel for the young families buying groceries for a couple kids. Costs a fortune!!

The new managers probably have to move out some people that are just not performing well. The employees do seem to do a lot of whining openly to customers in the store. BUT, there are some helpful, dedicated people there as well. Their prices can be outrageous on some items. I agree Acme on KI should just close. It seems dirty and cramped. Food Lion also has less than helpful employees. I would Love a Harris Teeter, Giant, or ! (God Forbid) a Super Walmart near us. Clean, well stocked, with competitive prices that is what I am looking for in a store.

I personally do not shop at Safeway unless I have no choice, which is rarely. Glad to hear they got rid of Bruce tho...worhtless piece of crap is my opinion of that man...with good reason..won't go into it....
But unless I have no choice, I refuse to give my money to any part of safeway...to include Starbucks...... the only reason I go there or have been there is for other people picking up items..
Overpriced...mis managed, and I hope they fire at least 2/3 rds of the incompetent people who work there.
Unless gas is a whole dollar cheaper then anywhere else....well not worth me driving over that way either....
gee.... It must be Monday I sound snarky.

I dunno I had enough points on our card that we saved $.30 per gallon so I paid $2.81 for gas the other day!!! Seems so small but I was stoked!!!
I wish we also had a Giant here! I love teeter but they can be rather pricey as well... Sometimes worse than Safeway...

I saved a dollar a gallon on gas when it first opened. And now I have $.80/gallon gas saved up again. Going to fill up tomorrow! Not much choice in these parts, so we're stuck with Safeway. But at least I'm reaping benefits with gas... and every now and then I get $10 off grocery coupon... but we have 2 kids (and one on the way).
Hubby and I tried to get breakfast one morning, and the woman behind the counter, bless her little old heart, was not very pleased that she had to be put to work so early. She ended up being nice at the end (after a lot of coddling and being overly polite) but I have to say we have not been back since!

I think the new Safeway Manager is AWFUL - I've been in there early (7:15 AM) and heard her yelling at employees. Changes the whole tone of the store!

Figured I would just add comment to this thread - it may or may not have to do with the new manager. I shop at all the grocery stores and seem to stop by Safeway at least every other day picking up few things at a time. I've really never been a fan of their rule that the casher has to look at the register for your name and "how much you've saved". Now they are doing a charity fundraiser and not only do they ask every time for a donation but they are told to "shout out" when they get a donation. Instructions to do this are regularly announced over the store loudspeaker. And also the "shout outs" over the loudspeaker. I'm not liking it.
I have also noticed recently where prices of items are not shown. I never noticed this before.
