Please tell me this is a joke. I've been waiting for that too.... Sad part is, it could be very real, I've been to North Dakota twice this year and there's a huge effort under way that ended up on the ballot for UND to remove the "Fighting Sioux" as their mascot and logo. Turns out, the Sioux tribe did NOT have a problem with it, but there was a lawyer that found some other small tribe to sign on to the complaint and the ball rolled on from there..... What a sad a$$ joke for all that time, money, and effort wasted on a dumb a$$ campaign against a mascot when there's real problems in the country that need solved.... |

No doubt I am a Conservative but to name the school after a bunch of rapist murdering thieves is just so wrong! I truly believe that you shouldn't promote violence by use the " Buccaneers " or " pirates "! It's not a positive!
Naming the school after a animal is fine or maybe a event would be OK. Buccaneers is not much different than the BULLET'S! Go Osprey!

Isn't the accepted historical justification for the Bucs that the old Stevensville HS was the Pirates and Bucs were named in a nod to that heritage?

The KIHS Wikipedia page entry alludes to that justification, and the kids from Stevensville Middle School (in the old Stevensville HS building) are also proud to carry the name STMS Pirates in honor, as well. If KIHS is forced to change, then my vote is that QAHS be forced to change to the QA "Domestic Kittens"...."Lions" being violent carnivores, and all.... |

I can say that because I had a son graduate in 2002 from KI..and my other son will graduate from QA in 2017...Football games are interesting...lol |

Oh dear.... When we first moved to the community......I had to go to enroll my two in the H.S. and prior to this all we heard was KI Bucs....and all I could think that their mascot was a deer... LOL!!!
Mascots don't promote violence in schools.... undisciplined brats promote violence in schools.... When kids are no longer fearful of any consequences for bad behavior....
changing the name of the mascot isn't going to solve the issue....it's going to creat more violence, cause they will have to defend their name..... or be made fun of....... (Can you imagine the football team being called the Butterflies?
Quit worrying about the mascots and put the discipline back in to the hands of the educators... Start making these children accountable for their actions...and quit hand holding and telling all the kids that everyone is a winner.....

Times are changing! We need to tone down the violence. Go Ospreys! ;D Tone down? Do you realize ospreys are meat eaters? Their diet consists mainly of fish. They have reversible talons to pierce the fish before driving their pointed beak into the live fish as he wriggles in pain. Oh, the horror! Not an image we would want in our childrens minds as wear the raptors name on to the non-competitive playing filed where everyone is a winner. Surely we can find a meaningless, non-offensive symbol to represent our school. I'm thinking something to do with cotton candy. Any thoughts? |

Cotton Candy is a death trap for flies...they get stuck on it as they innocently try and have a meal ..and die a hideously long and torturous death flailing trying to un-stick themselves. |
