Probably the same people who put their infants in the adult swimming pool.. It is mind boggling and so tragic that we have so many mentally sick people. But is is also tragic that the gun control mob is already using this incident to once again bash guns. The fact is, if more people in this country were allowed to carry a weapon to defend themselves nut cases like this guy might actually be shot and killed before he got off the second shot in a crowded movie theater. Bloomberg is at it again.. does not want YOU to be able to defend yourself from the coddled criminals but you can bet your last nickel he has armed guards and armed police escorts. But, I am old. Old people are cranky, and critical, and suspicious, and cheap, and annoying, and slightly impotent, and early risers, and ... well you know..

I am surprised it's taken this long for someone to go this route. Clearly the easiest shooting to pull off.

This man used assault weapons that he'd purchased legally.
Maybe someone on here can answer me this question:
What legal purpose could someone possibly have for purchasing an automatic or semi-automatic weapon, assuming the person in question wouldn't already have access to such weapons at his or her place of employment? (In other words, not a cop, member of the military, FBI, etc.)

BS. The armed hero scenario only works if there's only one armed hero. Do the math: 1) Smoke grenade goes off, shots fired, you're the only other guy with a gun, you target the assailant, he goes down, you're a hero (this assumes a LOT of things go right, but bear with me for sake of argument). 2) Smoke grenade goes off, shots fired, from somewhere else in the darkness more shots are fired, and then some more from a third location. Suddenly you're NOT the only other guy with a gun. Are there multiple assailants? Who do you target? And which of the other heroes will be targeting you by mistake? Saying "more guns would have prevented this tragedy" is easy. Stupid and wrong, but easy.

I wouldn't say more guns WOULD have prevented it, but it certainly COULD have prevented it, simply by the bad guy knowing there COULD be armed citizen in his target area. Saying it's stupid and wrong is also EASY. As long as we are unarmed, we are fish in a barrel waiting to be shot.

(In other words, not a cop, member of the military, FBI, etc.) More uneducated antigun crap- MOST people do not have an automatic weapon, most can't afford them or the headache to get one. DEFINE ASSAULT WEAPON, because I could assault someone with ANY of my weapons and not just firearms. Read up on some history, all your answers are right there. And if we don't learn from that we'll live it again.... My answer to your question, ANY DAM LEGAL PURPOSE I CAN THINK OF! Including collecting f-n dust under my bed until IF or WHEN I need it. You think only "a cop, member of the military, FBI," should have access to these? Have you heard of a guy named Hitler? He disarmed his citizenry None of my guns ever killed anyone, ever.

to answer an earlier question of why these or any guns allowed? Easy... Civics Lesson 101:
2nd Amendment, part of the Bill of Rights for which this country was founded upon, for whom untold numbers of soldiers have fought to protect, what everyone comes to this Country for to escape other countries that do not have these freedoms and more importantly as the name implies, these are rights guaranteed to all citizens in this great country. You don’t have to agree with everything in the Bill of Rights, but that is your right too under the 1st Amendment.
I could write pages in rebuttal about anti gun crap, but the underlying argument is what I stated above. I fly my flag everyday to celebrate this great Country and the freedoms and rights I have as a citizen and all citizens have had for over 225 years. I am so glad these have stood the test of time rather than adjust to every knee jerk reaction.

You guys are definitely living in a fantasy world, and I'm sure when the shooting breaks out you'd be pushing women and kids out of the way heading for the doors.
The second amendment was written in another time, and in regards to a regulated militia.
BFD. You have a flag that flies every day. So do I.

News flash, most of the amendments were written in another time. You don't NEED your right to free speech or religion. Report to what used to be your local church for reeducation. Don't forget to turn in your regular TV for one of the new two-way models.

My understanding of the 2nd amendment was that its intention was to allow the populace to be able to overthrow the government, in case of tyranny. We wouldn't be able to do that today with just guns. If we were to honor the intention of the law, citizens would need to have access to all the weaponry our military has access to.

Funnel, a bunch of rice farmers gave our military a hell of a time. I think a few million gun owners wouldn't have a problem.
Stand up fights are where we shine as an Army. Dealing with a rebellious population is impossible, and they know it.

I love these knee jerk reaction "gun control" pushes. Would people SERIOUSLY alter the Constitiution of the United States of America because a few - VERY FEW - legal gun owners might decide to be idiots? ? Everyone in the US has to lose their rights because of them??? They do not seem to grasp the FACT that ILLEGAL GUN owners don't care if there is a gun ban or not - THEY will ALWAYS have them.....leaving law abiding US Citizens ripe for their picking....no - no thank you. I would be second in line behind BChevy for access to the same weapons our military has. I am not a pacifist nor am I a liberal - I am a fully ready to defend and fight for my family, home and country without apologies. And yes, using really big guns if I need/want to.

There's not going to be any new gun control laws based on this shooting. In reality, gun control laws are loosening across the country, the people have spoken against them and the courts are agreeing. There might be some talk on the anti-gun side, but that's as far as it's going to go. The WH isn't going to touch it, just like they haven't touched it the past 3 years. To me, the real knee jerk reaction is from those that continue to think that their guns are going to be taken away. In wake of this shooting, combined with the upcoming election just like in 2008...the sale of guns and ammo has soared. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18980974www.foxnews.com/us/2012/03/22/gun-sales-off-to-bang-for-election-year/

If they had security and metal detectors, then I could see a legitimate lawsuit, but a walk in theatre provides no higher expectation of safety than any public place.
