Ok folks.../rant ON -
Well, first I would like to congratulate Bill Bateman's Bistro in Severna Park for being so financially stable that they can completely do without regular business from a group of 5-15 customers that have been coming for months, never cause any sort of problem, and tip VERY nicely. Second, I would like to convey my complete and total disappointment with the, apparently GROSSLY inexperienced, "manager" on duty's attitude and handling of a minor problem that, for a manager of higher quality, maturity and class, would have been a very simple act and would have appeased both sides without issue - - instead he chose to become condescending, insulting and confrontational. So noted. My husband, his friends, their friends and their friend's-friends - as well as anyone we happen to encounter in our day-to-day dealings will get to hear the deplorable account of events that transpired last night - September 25, 2012 - and our subsequent decision that there are several other causal dining establishments in the area to which we can take our business and at least expect to be treated honorably and with courtesy.

As a matter of fact... My husband, shorti's husband, pirategirl's husband and two other ladies' husbands went over to BBBs for their monthly "guys wing night out" (as they have been doing now for almost 5 months) even though they were lacking two or three other of the "regular" group - to unwind after work and just chat and visit a while - they have been going there for a couple of reasons - including the fact that they either enjoy the $10 all you can eat wings or the $.25 wings as a part of their evening there. When they got there they asked - PRIOR TO BEING SEATED - if the 25th of the month was still, in fact, Quarter Wing Night - and were told that, "Yes, absolutely!" and then off they went to sit and again enjoy each other's company. They were about two rounds of 15 wings into the evening when they placed another order for 30 - at the same time noticing the aforementioned "manager" leering at them while calling their waiter over after he left their table - now....please understand....these men go to the same church and have become quite close and found a venue where they could sit, respectfully not disturbing anyone around them, and relate to each other their opinions, challenges and general "men" stuff in a group of peers with the same belief system....not that it should matter - yet, I almost feel it does....but I digress.... The waiter sheepishly returned and told them that his "manager" had just informed him that they were NOT going to observe the Quarter Wing Night pricing promotion and that all of their wings were going to be charged to them at full price. Needless to say, they were...stunnned - yet remained pleasant, and simply requested if they could speak to the "manager" about the recent development. The waiter politely and promptly went to get him for them.....and again sheepishly returned to the group and stated the "manager" was "too busy to talk to them". My husband pleasantly stated they were willing to wait and would be there when the "manager" became......less busy. They also asked the waiter how much their current bill was under the newly revealed pricing......for the 30 wings (the order for the other 30 having not been put in yet) and five sodas.....the bill was $50. Again...they were a bit stunned, yet....withheld being upset with the messenger and decided to just clear things up with the appropriate party. EVENTUALLY....the "manager" came to their table and in a most....irritated tone asked them what their problem was. They told him that the entire story from entry to that moment and their confusion and hopes that the misunderstanding could, this one time, be handled to everyone's satisfaction. To which they were greeted with a, "Oh, that's NOT gonna happen" - from the "manager". Then, my husband asked if, since this was obviously a misunderstanding, they could just be given the $10 AYCE Monday night special price (since they were not anticipating such a large bill for chicken wings) Again, being denied with great dirision, by the same "manager" who also, when they tried to explain it wasn't about the money aspect of the misunderstanding - cut them off with a snide, "Oh - I think that is EXACTLY what it is about". Honestly....my husband was on the brink of behaving poorly - yet took a deep breath - at which time pirtategirl's husband calmly and in a most humble manner, explained that, in fact, no - it was about the principal of the situation and that they had been told one thing and yet were being most abruptly switched to something entirely different. He also, in the same, calm and humble manner, told the "manager" that based on HIS actions/reactions to this seemingly simple misunderstanding they would not be returning to that establishment as their experience there was now indelibly tainted and would gladly relocate their evenings elsewhere. They paid their tab - tipped the waiter nicely - and left. There were other snippy, unsatisfactory remarks made by the "manager" that I cannot recount accurately, so I will only acknowledge the existence of. I can ASSURE anyone reading this....it was NOT about the money....it was about being told something....then being rudely treated and having that information recanted in an exceptionally unsatisfactory manner. I am grateful pirategirl's husband was there to offer his calm and controlled responses - he taught all of them a lesson on how to behave in the face of adversity that is actually very much appreciated. The end result is this....we have written a letter to the corporate office, I have written a complaint directly on their social media page and I am posting this here - with "management" like that...I can see them having problems in the future. Albeit - not from us....we won't be going back.

I would have told the manager that he either honor the agreed upon price when the services were rendered, or he can call the police and let them sort it out.
No manager wants police cars sitting in the parking lot, and officers looming over a table asking questions. It makes other customers nervous, and business starts to slow down.
He may call the bluff, but only at his own peril. The worst that can happen is you end up paying full price.

Haven't been there for awhile but the last time I was they didn't have a very large crowd so the bartender was blaring the music loud enough to hardly make out what the person across the table was saying.

We ALL go back up there on the next 25th and do this all over again with a bigger crowd and a different ending...... Confirming the price going in of coarse

Update It would seem that the problem that my husband and his group encountered and the subsequent complaints we issued, did not fall on deaf ears. My husband was contacted moments ago by a gentleman with the upper management of BBB. He (the gentleman from BBB) apologized profusely for the situation they had encountered, acknowledged -without hesitation or prompting - that the "manager" in question was completely and totally in the wrong in how he handled the situation, totally agreed with the fact that if they had been told one price that the price should have been exactly what they had been told without hesitation, and expressed his genuine upset as to how my husband and his friends had been treated by said "manager". He pled for the group's forgiveness and is sending gift cards without expiration dates to my husband's group with a heart-felt invitation to please allow them the opportunity to right the wrong that had occurred during that unfortunate evening. He also stated that he had a "discussion" with that "manager" who would not be working NEARLY as much as he had been previously until the Company could assure the same behavior/issue would NOT happen again. My husband told the gentleman that he appreciated his honesty and honorable call and that he would present the information to his group for their reconsideration. It's official....I am impressed. Our goal was NOT for any sort of compensation - but to let their establishment know that customers have choices....it would appear our statements were not in vain. I am actually, sincerely, hoping they decide to return and allow this tainted experience to fall aside. One bad "manager" should not ruin the entire apple bunch. I just wanted to follow up on this event and the result with due diligence.
