Celiac is am autoimmune disease. By calling the restaurant Southern Celiac, it does call to the populace of concern in regards to gluten issues. For instance, if people who have a gluten allergy, intolerance or celiac disease (like myself) know where they can eat safely, they are more inclined to eat there. Many places state they have a gluten free menu and try to cater to those with allergies, but for this issue (celiac) being told it is gluten free and the said item is processed or prepared in a gluten area can offer severe counter affects to the patron. Here we are trying to negate this for many people like myself who are tired of being poisoned by other eateries who are trying to get in on the gluten free fad. So as one may believe that the name of the restaurant may seem awful, the ones who currently suffer a gluten allergy, intolerance or celiac disease will see it (hopefully) as a safe area to bring their families to dine.

No offense is meant by my comment above or now. But you could have put that word Celiac in the description of the restaurant, Its sort of like naming a restaurant...the Diabetic Diner....just is not very appetizing name. I do however applaud your efforts in bringing a more healthy eating establishment to the shore...and I hope the name does not keep people away.

No offense taken, just trying to explain I know not everyone will love the name of the restaurant, but I can't please everyone. Maybe the next venture will be Diabetic Diner, that does kind of roll off the tongue! Or maybe Pearly's Peanut free Pastry shop, or Venessa's Vegan Venue. We could go on and on finding names that would suit one person or another, but chances are it won't suit everyone. Thank you for your feedback.

In no way am I making light of these illnesses, I'm thinking there's a much better way to support the cause.
There's a reason you don't see these names on eating establishments.....

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea.. seems to me the Gluten Free diet is catching on. Many of the upscale grocery stores have large sections dedicated to Gluten Free foods. I also am hearing more and more people being diagnosed with Celiacs or at least an intolerance to gluten and processed foods.
I think after people get over the unusual name, it may just have a steady clientele. Especially if the food is good. Some of the Gluten Free stuff I have tried is horrible! Some I have found to be quite tasty.. I suppose a good Chef could make an old shoe taste good.

Thank you all for your feedback! I know this post was for employment, but it takes a village right? We are open now though I will have more information on another forum, but we are open Monday - Saturday 9-7, and server Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Our hours will be better once we get more foot traffic. We offer dine in or carry out, so feel free to come by and try out the menu! Again, thank you for all of your feedback!

Sorry to hear of the business failure, but there are lots of people with good intention that just don't think too well.. Most people not familiar with Celiacs disease would not walk down the street in front of a place with a name like that.. they would cross to the other side worrying they might catch something.. A better name for the restaurant would have been something like "Southern Style" with a nice Gluten free section on the menu.
